I got sad for all the dumb questions I've been asking (and even more that I have not yet asked) about lightning issues, and stumbled on this, though I see that it was posted here a year ago (#396203) It's been useful so far, so I'm re-surfacing in case it can help others also trying to untangle things.

I don't know the full methodology for how it was trained, etc., but I'm guessing it's a basic RAG system attached to a simple open-source model. You can imagine a more sophisticated system that's actually trained (vs RAG and fine-tuning) on btc-related stuff being really amazing. One day.

Thanks for re-surfacing @elvismercury. As mentioned in #396527, this is a Bitcoin Dev Project project and the source code is here -- contributors and PRs welcome!

Nothing is being trained here. The responses are generated based on the same sources as bitcoinsearch.xyz. We take the content from the most relevant sources and then ask OpenAI (could use another LLM) to summarize the raw content. This limits the hallucinations as we don't make up any answers that don't have content to support it, but also limits its range. It does well with technical questions that people have written long mailing list posts about, but not very well with general purpose bitcoin things. We also implemented L402 for DoS protection.

Now, think of Bitcoin mining like this candy guessing game. The "hashrate" is how fast everyone can make guesses. So, if you have a super-fast guessing machine, you can make lots of guesses really quickly. In the world of Bitcoin, these guesses help find new blocks, which is like winning a round of the candy game, and you get rewarded with some candies (or Bitcoins, in this case).

So, hashrate is just a fancy way of saying how quickly guesses (or calculations) are being made in the Bitcoin network. More guesses per second mean a higher hashrate!

At least it didn't describe mining as "solving mathematical puzzles."

Mining as a super fast guessing game is a much more accurate analogy than "solving math puzzles"

When I first heard about bitcoin and people described mining as "solving math puzzles", I had in mind that bitcoin miners were contributing to our knowledge of math because of that, like a prime number search kind of thing.

How long it will take until you will see bullshit answers like "buy ETFs instead of BTC" and "bitcoin reserve asset is adoption"? WHO is training those LLM will control the future newbies... and they will brainwash them as babies. Clueless people will blindly follow everything an AI crap shit will say without even thinking that maybe is a wrong answer. We will have a new cult. FUCK THIS SHIT !
