Opinion: shared links should not earn sats (SNIP 2)

I know, this can be not so popular :)
I noted the some shared links, beside be usefull, get a lot of tipping, more than some great original content posted on SN. I think that if a resource is useful the real thanks should deserved to the original author, dosn't?
"No earn" is a bit provocatory, but a nice option could be give 10% of the tips to the user that shared the links and lock up the remaining 90% for the original author, that can redeem them signing up tu SN, if is not already an user. A bit complex to orchestrate but could be a nice marketing move, too.

I get the sentiment, however, sometimes bringing a link to my attention is enough for me to throw sats around (because I'm not a degen who's on all these websites where'd I'd be able to find them on my own). Usually, websites have google analytics integrated in them, and the site owner can see where their web traffic is coming from. If a link is shared on SN, the site sees that people visited their site from a link shared on SN
Given that SN is a site where people have Bitcoin, the site owner might decide to then add a "tip the author with sats" option on their own website.
That all being said, I'll probably stop tipping for links to legacy media websites.

Let's remember that SN is bitcoin-centric now, but as @k00b said he would like to extend it to more areas:
Right now, much of the conversation on Stacker News revolves around Bitcoin and related topics, but over time there will be new topics that are covered on different subs.
So offer sats to not-bitcoin-related authors seem a nice way to promote SN and the Bitcoin ecosystem in a single step.

I'm not sure about how it should be structured, but I see your point. There must be some incentive, though, to post good content found elsewhere.

Additional idea: on a link post SN could check for a specific meta set by the page owner, ex:
<meta name="stacker-news-author" content="k00b">
and automatically forward the tips, or a % of them, to the author (if it really exist on SN, of course).

This will eventually allow to match the SN user and resource owner too, could be useful to highlight the matter and this will make clear that the tip is a thanks to the author.

I think let the market decide. The algorithm that displays posts based on sats donated will self-select.

The problem, probably, is that the algorithm is feeded with the incorrect data, where the incorrect data is originated by a tip used as an upvote.

I think tips are bad idea in general. Other than that, it's a matter of the algorithm. Where can I review the algorithm in GitHub?

I don't see the problem. I'm annoyed when people linked to garbage msm media, imperialist propaganda. But add exposure to good sources can be rewarded, the community is judge.

No earn is more or less up to the community, and I don't really see an abuse (spamming) of link share, or dilution of the shares for that matter (you can ask the content creators themselves)?
I do think SN needs more long form (maybe even original) content that is specific to Bitcoin, though. These tend to receive the most readership anyway, and by extension of that, tips.
Lastly, I like the way you titled the post, until we get clearly defined tags and labels.

Thank you for the feedback. In fact my proposal aims to move attention, and funds, toward original contents.
A resource can be shared even with a post including a personal comment, so it automatically becomes a not so low effort post.
Perhaps there should be a difference between upvote and tips.

Cool. More or less on the same page then. Personally, I think:
(1) SN has a great community; (2) Long form, thoughtful posts should be encouraged (I care less about toxicity, echo chambers, etc.). As mentioned in other posts, I would further further divide that into (a) well organized threads including blogs with follow-up's, and (b) first hand experience type tutorials on everything Bitcoin.
Re: your point on upvote and tips - not sure how posts get pushed to "TOP", but another feature to upvote should be reasonably simple to implement and for the community to understand.
I enjoyed Reddit and HN, and hope SN will move slowly to find its niche - wherever we end up landing.

The content owner is getting rewarded by the additional clicks generated by the post to SN. If the content owner wants sats, they should have posted to SN directly.

Sure, and it deserves a fair income.
The matter, as I can see it, is that a lot of people use tipping as an upvote for the content, which is quite different than a "thank you" for sharing. So the user earn a lot of sats that should probably go to the content's owner.

People are using the tipping function incorrectly, sure.
But you can't claim it's a moral imperative for the content aggregator to share with the content 'owner'. 'Owners' have the same incentive to post their content here. If they don't, it is no one else's problem than their own.
A variable percentage split would be a nicety. It should be at the sole discretion of the person making the post.
