@siggy47 recently asked about muting settings. I don't think I mute very liberally but maybe I do.

Currently I have 21 accounts muted. How about you

Just one. I make sure to give people plenty of rope.

reply

I so desperately want to know who it is.

reply

It is a seriously uninteresting account. I mentioned to @Car on our podcast that I'm pretty sure it's just a CCP chatbot.

It makes stupid comments, but in a way that I feel compelled to respond, which always descends into the same tedious conversation as the previous dozen times.

I muted it because it's always the same conversation, which gave me high certainty that I wouldn't miss anything by muting it. If the dumb frustrating conversations were different from each other, I would have allowed it to continue.

reply

Hold up. You have a podcast with @Car?

reply

It sure sounds like I do, from how I phrased that.

reply

Wurds is hard.

reply

I respect your principles even more now. After @siggy47's original post, I went and read a couple of posts from my mutes, and one in particular made me want to barf and then go find a tire iron.

It could be an opportunity for self-growth to leave that shit visible, but then, I've got so many opportunities for that already.

reply

I know who it is ;)

reply

I think a bunch of you do.

reply

I ended up muting him too. Though I think long after you had already done so.

reply

I have a REALLY good guess.

reply

I’d look through your past comments to figure it out, but you have quite a few

reply

Thanks for not mentioning my user name.

By the way, how did you see this post anyway?

reply

Ha! No, you're pretty comfortably not the worst account on SN.

reply

You know, a fake fight would be fun.

Back in the day one of my more creative co-workers made two twitter accounts. One was basically quoting stuff I said in the office(without my knowledge mind you). The other was like the opposite of me.

She was so a lot of fun to work with.

reply

None. I have pretty thick skin.

reply

That's a good quality but I think some people just don't like the noise or distraction.

reply

I'm a walking distraction. It would be hypocritical to mute anyone for that 😁

Goose egg baby! I used to be more generous with the downzaps though. I gotta get back to that.

@k00b @ek Any chance an easter egg could be added for quality downzapping? I'm pretty sure I've benefitted a great deal from this amazing service, as I'm sure are many stackers who were spared my downzapped posts. Maybe the cattle prod?? or electric fence?

lol yeah, I'd like to encourage good downzapping like we do with good zapping.

We have a great post on this: #619793

reply

Sheriff badge it's gotta be a sheriff badge

reply

i always thought i would never waste zaps on downzapping, but a sheriffs badge could do convince me

reply

Oh man... I'd love that.

No way lol, me too.

I have zero. I like getting the full SN experience. I have been considering opening the wild west mode...just havent yet. I dont know if I want that, especially if I use SN at work occasionally.

reply

Philosophically speaking, wouldn't the full experience include using the mute feature?

reply

But if you mute someone, when they comment about something, you wouldnt be able to see it. Especially if they comment about something that you are interested in, wouldnt that be a shame to not see it? I think it is better just to ignore them.

And what if you miss a post about something you might be interested in because you were too busy scrolling through slop?

reply

There is too much here. By now, I know many of the users here on SN. I am able to tell which are making good posts, and which arent. But there will always be some that slip by. Its life.

reply

I have at least a dozen

I have deemed these people to have nothing useful to say. But worse, listening to them makes one more ignorant

I know more than a few people including Darth and carlos fandango have muted me because they don't like what I say which is too bad because they are bitches who can't handle the truth

A ton, makes SN👌

reply

45 and they are all highly regarded.

reply

zero. SN still doesn’t have enough posts or users to generate much noise. Keep it up, k00b!

reply

No muted users but I’ve muted about 30-40% of territories

reply

18 currently

reply

Very few actual users. Tons of bots

reply

I have 0, and it will probably remain 0; I won't mute anyone.

reply

I have none. Just skip past people if you don’t agree always if you mute you might miss something good from these people

reply
reply

mostly bots, but also one or two extremely low quality, highly regarded commies

reply

Darthcoin and DesertDave

reply

I didn't ask for user names...

Did you click "more"? That was I thought about me as well until I clicked "more".

reply

zero!

reply

NONE...I keep things peaceful

reply

Does muting help?

reply

Your number is pretty high! I've muted 3 Nyms only.

reply

Why should I mute someone? S.N. It's an amazing platform and if I don't want to see someone's content then just don't watch it. Peace and SAT to all.

reply

Just one, someone I've noticed on other social media platforms over the years. Muted them only because I find them annoying.
