After a week of shifting my weight on the chair to #867949, I realized it’s a cover of this original1:
I think the cover is so much better, but if we go by views, it’s not: 800 million vs. 28 million. Probably a dumb proxy metric.
Anyway, that made me think what other songs have "objectively" better covers. Honorable mention:
No other covers come to mind currently. What about you? 👀
I want to mention here that I do like Taylor Swift just like I like Ollie from BMTH even though he apparently can be a dickhead.

Footnotes

  1. even though it literally says 'cover' in the title—I thought maybe it meant 'acoustic cover,' with the song still by Ms. Bee

Wow, it's quite hard to tell if a song is a cover if it's not mentioned. Didn't know all these songs are actually covers 👀

I didn't miss the "yEs oF cOuRsE" haha
Not sure if it was removed because it didn't sound nice or because it didn't make sense. 👀

Interesting, I am really bad at culture stuff so I had no idea. A friend used to call me "Kulturbanause" in German. I didn't even know what that word meant initially haha

I removed because I misread your initial comment as asking if I knew they were covers but as soon as I replied I realized you were saying you didn't know. My bad.

I might have changed my comment because that was what I was thinking initially ("are these really covers?") but I thought that was still just me thinking before replying lol

Saw him live with Stevie Ray Vaughn on guitar about 3 months before SRV died in the early 90s!

Can’t say this one is definitely better because the vocal harmony on the Queen is just so awesome, but I think they outdid them on most other fronts on this one.

First done by Prince, and then his protogé group The Family in the earlier 80s, this one was most famous:

For me, it would be either seether - careless whisper
Or the ataris - boys of summer.
But choosing between those two is a task I don't know if I could do.

IMO - The Meat Puppet’s Lake of Fire by Nirvana.
Also I like Black Sabbath’s - Iron Man By the Cardigans;
And an honorable mention to Dr.Dre’s - Bitches Ain’t Shit by Ben Folds. 😂
