I thought that now was as good a time as any to talk about Perfect Pierre. Football season is over. We're on the eve of the Four Nations Tournament.
I have searched for information about Perfect Pierre, but I've come up empty. When I was a kid I was a huge hockey fan. I read just about every book I could find on the subject. I vividly remember a story about the mythical character Perfect Pierre. As I recall, this was sometime in the post war years of the 1940s. There were only two Canadian teams in the original six, the Canadiens and the Maple Leafs.
Legend has it that one of those two teams had sent a scout to the Yukon, where there were rumors that the perfect goalie existed. In a small, isolated community, people were shaped a little differently. The man was known as Perfect Pierre. He was four feet tall and six feet wide, the exact dimensions of an ice hockey goal. He would be the best goalie in the league. An unbeatable asset for any team. The scout was there to sign him to a long term contract.
News made it back to either Toronto or Montreal and the fans got very excited. There were newspaper articles and everything. Sadly, no one ever actually located Perfect Pierre, and that was the end of that.
Now, I know I read this. I talked about this with my friends. I don't think I dreamed it. Have any SN hockey fans heard this story? Does anyone know if an account of this legend exists?
I have not heard this but it sounds like one of @Aardvark’s sports facts.

Reading his post reminded me of the story.

Maybe it was the ghost of Pierre DuPont come back for revenge.

I think that perhaps some of us are not treating this legend with the respect it clearly deserves.

I assure you that I respect all sports facts, and if it was written on the internet, then by default, it becomes fact.

That's the thing. Of course it would be true if it was on the internet, but I can't find it.
