Honestly, I think its cruel and unusual punishment. It definitely causes long term harm to mental health, and I don't consider it to be a form if torture.

Ask the opposite: Is group confinement in prisons a human rights violation? Not having a criminal for a roommate seems like a perk.

Solitary confinement isn't just not having a roomate. It's sitting alone in a room with no human contact and nothing to do but sit alone in a room.

That seems like the default I would expect from imprisonment.
In a libertarian framework, the function of imprisonment is to force the prisoner to repay their debts. Denying the prisoner access to any value creating opportunities stands in the way of that goal. If a friend or a charity wants to gift something like books or basketballs to the prisoner, I don't see any justification for superseding the prisoner's ownership of those things.
In a statist framework, the function of imprisonment is to inflict punishment on the prisoner. Since suffering is the intended purpose, I don't want to give the government any good ideas on how to maximize it.

There's rules against cruel and unusual punishment in a statist framework. That's why I'm asking.

Don't you consider there to be some form of human rights within natural law? Even if someone is an aggressor, is it ok to torture them?

Yes, I'm using the wrong terminology by saying "human rights" but do you think it's ok to use solitary confinement to punish an aggressor?

if somebody is already imprisoned, is already lost everything and is there because he didn't defend correctly from a standpoint of a living man. He lost from the second one, if you consider yourself as a person or a "human" that have rights.
So is totally pointless to say that somebody in prison have any rights. Is just a vessel, an object, a subject.
I am strongly recommending you to study all "Lux pills" listed here: #586916
He did great job posting them every day, but those are just "pills", clues for you to study more. Otherwise you will end up in prison and you don't know why...

I genuinely want to understand. Hypothetically, you have property, and I go to your property and assault or steal from you. I am an aggressor and therfore you can defend yourself.
Can you lock me up as defense? How about torture? Where is the line according to natural law?
