An interesting anecdote about The Kinks involves their concert with The Beatles in August 1964 in Bournemouth. At the time, The Kinks were not yet well-known and had only released two singles, while The Beatles were already very popular in the United Kingdom. Before the concert, John Lennon reportedly reminded The Kinks that they were only there to "warm up the audience" before The Beatles took the stage. However, The Kinks managed to impress the audience with their performance, particularly with their song "You Really Got Me." According to Ray Davies, their performance elicited such an enthusiastic reaction from the crowd that fans were still cheering for The Kinks when The Beatles came on stage2. This performance reportedly irritated John Lennon and Paul McCartney, who subsequently arranged for The Kinks to be scheduled earlier in subsequent concerts to avoid a repeat of this incident. Ray Davies described this event as an "early validation" of their talent, comparing the experience to having something bigger than the bully at school1. This anecdote illustrates not only the nascent rivalry between British bands of the era but also the beginning of The Kinks' rise to fame.

That's a cool fact. Always knew the Beatles had a bit of an ego problem.
