I'm just learning and hunting around right now. I'm curious whether eBay is a viable source. I have had good luck generally on ebay, so long as I vet the seller. Keep in mind that I don't have my eye on anything in particular.

I bought an s9 off eBay like 5 or 6 years ago. I used to mine with it but it was way too loud. So now it’s just an item I keep stored. But it taught me a lot about mining

I buy broken miners on eBay so I can make BitLights but would like to get into it deeper to buy/sell some actual functioning miners.

I’ve considered it but never pulled the trigger.
I’m skeptical of buying used equipment that I connect to my home network

There is a risk that the mining device has been hacked!

When the device is second-hand, the risk is greater. There is always risk in everything!

I wonder if there's a way to check out the firmware. I guess guys who know what they're doing buy them. There is a large used market for miners, right?
I know for other ebay items there are established sellers who put low cost items on ebay.
Also, kaboomracks sells used miners, I think.

You should be able to flash firmware yourself. And you should be able to verify the firmware, too

I never bought miners. But (and this is just my opinion) it's not recommended to buy second hand miners...for some reason somebody sell that... and the cheaper price not is the single factor we need to take into account

One reason I have heard described as a problem with used miners is that if they are not shut down gracefully, the heat paste can become cracked from rapid cooling cycles.
