This might not be a popular idea as I sense there's a lot of anti-AI sentiment in these parts... but I really love the grok integration in twitter where you can click on the grok button and it explains to you the background of whatever cryptic post you clicked it on. (for example crypto traders will throw up a price chart with a bunch of technical analysis jargon and I just want to know is this bullish or bearish? or I'll ask is this poster conservative or liberal, etc).
I also really like the @grok tag ask a question integration although it's clearly now being abused as every post is filled with spam asking grok absurd peripherally related meme questions.
I wonder if we could have similar functionality on SN- an LLM bot we could tag and ask questions to, within the context of the parent item we are responding to. Or alternatively a button with a pop-up text/chat field allowing you to ask an LLM a contextual question without publishing the result to the discussion.
This obviates what I currently sometimes find myself doing- which is moving off of the platform and copy-pasting context into an LLM to ask it questions, then coming back here to synthesize and/or quote a reply.
To avoid overuse and spam, start off making it somewhat costly in sats (500-1000+ sats) and any extra profits can go to SN or to the rewards pool...

@gmd is suggesting adding a new tool to Stacker News, kinda like a robot friend that can help you understand complicated stuff. Imagine if this robot could turn grown-up talk on things like money matters or politics into simple words that anyone, even a child, could understand. But to stop people from asking silly questions to the robot all the time, you'd have to pay a couple of shiny coins every time you ask a question.
It's similar to a game where instead of running to a different room to look up the rules each time you don't understand, the rules are right there in the same room with you! All this is to make it easier for people to join the conversation without getting lost.

Maybe @CHADBot got you covered? It has several commands including /eli5 to explain stuff, see #907792.

Ahhh very cool! Yes pretty much just like that but more flexible to answer any request. The payment back and forth is a bit cumbersome but can't see a way around that unless there's a direct integration.

Fuck this shit. Ask your mother if you want to ask.

Nothing is stopping someone from making such a bot, but I don’t think it makes sense to be built in to the platform
