I just joined Bitcointalk and booted up my account, only to be greeted with this message.
Your IP address has previously been used for evil on this forum, or it is a known proxy/VPN/Tor exit node, so you are required to pay a small fee before you are able to post messages or send PMs. You can still use all of the read-only features without paying. Your account contains 1.07 units of evil. To atone, you must pay a total of 0.00000049 bitcoins (0.00049 mBTC; 49 satoshi). Pay to the address 34L2EJdajiJkRGNN33nJyBPTbhq2qvtCij. Once you have paid the full amount, wait a few seconds and then reload this page. If the fee is so small that your wallet is unable to send it, you can send any larger amount, though you will not be refunded the difference.
Are you serious??? Yeah, I can pay sats no problem. But NO LN option? Are you serious?? In this day and age, having Lightning options should be pretty standard for such a small transaction. It's a bit disappointing that they haven't jumped on that bandwagon yet.

The perfect place to do some marketing for SN πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ That's why I always said that SN must be the replacement of: Bitcointalk, Reddit, HN, stackexchange etc.... they all gone wild and/or became obsolete.
Just by suggesting to send 49 sats to an onchain address shows how poor and misleading is the whole Bitcointalk forum now.

Agree. SN is indeed the only viable option so far.

The forum looks old, or it's their evil way to get some free bitcoins. The message looks very unprofessional. I wouldn't join
reply
afaik it has been around since Satoshi era. I’d thought that it would be great idea to join.

This has been there for years. I guess no one is maintaining it.
The only project that hasn't moved off bitcointalk is Electrum. Kinda annoying
reply
Are they against LN? don’t understand. 49 sats on-chain doesn’t look appropriate.

I think it's been like that from before LN.
Maybe try with a different VPN location?
reply
Is not about the IP/VPN use. Is about what they said in that message. Anybody will be willing to pay a small fee, that's not a problem. The problem is why in the hell they said to send 49 sats to an onchain address. that is literally burning sats.

I've noticed a lot of folks from that era aren't interested in lightning at all.

What would be the right word?

dumb, idiotic, misleading
reply
one thing is not maintained and another thing is to put misleading and wrong information messages about Bitcoin for new users.

Man I've been BLASTED there before for posting MY OWN summaries! I've been told a liar and scammer while I simply wanted some feedback on the contents, absolutely pathetic place - the 4Chan of Bitcoin.

the 4Chan of Bitcoin
wondering how it become like this, drifting away from its original role as a pioneering forum for the Bitcoin?

The biggest shift came after it was hacked. Once it came back online most people already moved elsewhere. Many (including me) also had trouble getting their account back.

the case is the same, me too, I don't understand what the problem is, it's hard to join there, I was also considered to have joined using the same IP, even though I hoped to be able to join the group, unfortunately the group asked for a fee for the same IP.
reply
as long as you are not posting something, it seems you don't have to register.
