Not my wife.
Actually sometimes she does. But I would be crazy to divulge and air my dirty linen in public.
Joking aside, I dislike the whole business of Holistic Development Remarks. Which is our fancy term for the student remarks each student receives on his or her report card at the end of a semester.
No, I don’t mind the writing part. I have a Google Doc which boasts all the student remarks I have written in the past - thoughtfully sorted into themes and categories. It’s a matter of mixing and matching the appropriate remarks when remarks season arrives. I even bother to run them through ChatGPT or Meta to ensure the correct tone and register.
I do mind the vetting, though. It has grown out of proportion in my opinion.
First, a Key Personnel will vet my remarks.
Subsequently, after I accept this Key Personnel’s changes, I still must send the edited remarks to my Year Head. My Year Head will edit them further.
I will then include my Year Head’s inputs and print out a copy for my Vice Principal’s vetting. 3 rounds?!
I wouldn’t have minded the ding dong-ing of remarks so much, if it weren’t for the fact that different Key Personnel have different stylistic preferences. I feel like I have to change my words according to whoever is checking my work.
I even complained about it directly to my Year Head. Gggrrrrrr
Sigh. All my free periods were expended changing my remarks. So many manpower hours invested into something that most of my students wouldn’t particularly care about.

A pirate walks into a bar with a steering wheel on the front of his pants.
The bartender asks "what's the deal with the steering wheel?"
The pirate replies "Arrrr its been driving me nuts for hours"

I’m impressed. Did you just come up with that on the spur of the moment?

I heard it a very long time ago and I think about it every time I hear the phrase "driving me nuts"

It's like a thesis written by several hands — I can imagine your frustration. And what exactly is this HDR?

Holistic Development Remark
Basically how well a child has progressed in a semester in school. Holistic means moral, emotional, physical, academic growth

@DarthCoin coming to my post to comment "Shit coin garbage app" that drives me insane! If he's got nothing positive to say, he should just zap and get lost from my posts.

You are a moron posting garbage. What "positive" thing should I say?

Now you're ready to learn! It's good to ask questions humbly than condemn people efforts. There's no gain in belittling people just to feel like an authority. Turning off people's candles won't make yours shine brighter.

go back to your shitGPT master... fucking moron

All that back and forth just to please different tastes feels like you're writing for the adults, not the students. I'd lose it too.

Thanks for your empathy!

How frustrating! It's amazing how a process that should be simple turns into a bureaucratic odyssey. In the end, what matters is the impact those comments have on students, not how many times they go through different people's filters. I hope you find a way to simplify it soon!
