Marc Bolan, lyrical and songwriting visionary, who like so many others, died far too young, discusses his album Electric Warrior, the reception of British rockers in America, his idea of what "jives," tramps/hobos, and a bit about his songwriting process.
Bolan's music had something of a mysticism to it. His playful demeanor and lyrical wit are felt especially on this album in the hit songs, "Girl," "Cosmic Dancer," "Mambo Sun" and "Planet Queen," as well as in some of the deeper cuts like "The King of the Mountain Cometh" and "Rip Off."
Do yourself a favour, and if you have any interest in 1970s electric psychedelic/folk rock/blues, give the whole album a listen.

Get It On and Jeepster were anthems in my crowd.

No one in my crowd listens to T.Rex 😅 ...probably generational. My dad grew up listening to Zeppelin, Bowie and the like. Surprisingly he didn't know T.Rex until I showed him "The Slider."
Get It On and Jeepster
These two are fun. Honestly, all the album are hits for me.

I grew up in your dad's generation: Zep, Bowie, and lots of other stuff. I would say T Rex was respected but not considered among the top bands.

T Rex was respected but not considered among the top bands.
Maybe just a touch weird for mainstream appeal.
Most millennial and zoomers know the big names of that time but not T.Rex. I, for one, take a lot of joy out of 'discovering' eclectic stuff from previous generations. I probably listened to a bit too much Syd Barret/early Floyd while I was in high school for my own good. Meantime, all my peers were into trap/r&b.

Syd! My roommates and I were torn in picking a name for our cat: Syd or Lucifer Sam. Have you explored King Crimson?
reply
Lucifer Sam is long, and maybe a bit edgy for a cat's name. Could be shortened to Lou or Sam, I suppose. Great tune though.
Have you explored King Crimson?
Probably not enough. I know I've listened to the Court of the Crimson King. It's good stuff.
