I just crossed the one year mark if my first bitcoin purchase, and It's been ine hell of a year.
First year accomplishments:
Listened to a dozen books
Listened to hundreds (if not thousands) of hours of content including podcasts, and YouTube videos.
Discovered Stacker.news
Discovered Ligntning network
Discovered non KYC
Year 2 goals:
Stack harder than year one.
Finish @DarthCoin guides (finally)
Create and experiment with an uncle Jim node
Fully move from windows to Linux (hard October deadline, I'm not getting the new windows OS)
Increase my security
Side quest: eat koobideh
Long term goals:
Eventually I want to be able to onboard a small business to accept lightning payments.
TBD.
We will see how year two goes, but I don't think my goals are unrealistic for myself.
I’ll join your Linux goal, at least for my old laptop.
Linux is the ultimate freedom one bitcoiner must adquire. Get free from the hands of Microsoft and such, just feels good. I really recommend you trying out multiple Linux distros before picking your favorite, there are plenty of them and you may enjoy the process of testing all of it.
I definitely will not enjoy the process of testing a bunch of different options. What are your top three choices?
Thanks, I've used ubuntu before (and maybe debian), but not linux mint. I'll start with that one this time.
If you have any troubles, questions or something related to it I will be happy to answer. Linux Mint is a very great distro to use, lightweight and a beautiful GUI.
Old laptop is a great approach because it shows how much more efficient Linux can be. I say this but I did the opposite instead buying a new Framework laptop years ago.
Now I buy old Thinkpads and breath new life into them :)
I've run linux before, but it's been awhile. I'm sure it's a bit different now.
Hopefully I get that going in the next couple of months.

I was able to learn a lot while driving around the city for my business. Between pods and audiobooks.
The driving helps for quite a bit, but it can hinder me also as far as having time to do things outside of work hours.

SN Is an amazing resource, it's easy to catch up when you have all of the information right in front of you. You made a great site here.
In 2021 went through a similar experience. The issue back then, raspiblitz node through commandline was not great UX yet, no umbrel or start9 or albyhub existed. Opening channels and enjoying the ring of fire was quite a stretch.
Dozens of books helped in broadening understanding. Robosats wasn’t around and bisq1 had quite some issues.
A local business started to accept bitcoin and has saved many thousands of dollars by hodling strong my hundred+ minor food purchases.
This is the path, keep going and we are going to win.

The Linux goal - is there a hard Oct. deadline, when you can't run Windows 10 anymore? I might have to adopt the same goal...or at least make my Windows machine my non-primary...
Yea, there's not going to be support for 10 anymore, so its going to get less and less safe as time goes on. Im going to get a second SSHD and install linux on it and slowly migrate over.

Good list of accomplishments
Each one has started a different experience in Bitcoin. The important thing is to have discovered or to have escaped the bias that the Fiat system imposes on you and to have been able to discover Bitcoin to value your money, to find value for your effort, your time and to be able to protect it from the madness of that system.
