*Slipstream* is Marathon Digital's private mempool product. Cool product name. They can offer such a product because they're both a miner and a mining pool. Another example of the power vertical mining integration bestows. Leveraging the whole stack. Marathon btw, is the only public US miner with their own mining pool.

Slipstream is being marketed as a service for direct submission of large, complex, or non-standard bitcoin transactions — that meet a minimum fee threshold. Thinking about the future, wether it's Slipstream or private contracts for tx block inclusion doesn't matter, because they're effectively the same *evil*. I'm happy to play devil's advocate here, and don't see the problem with these products because they look like linear progressions of where mining was always trending. In some telling, thinking about bitcoin globally, these "private" mempools can be seen as another option in the larger jurisdictional arbitrage game, and a tool making mining more efficient, for what is now *commoditized blockspace*. And swallowing two fingers of whiskey with the following: if success is proven with the products and the powers that vertical mining integration bestow, is it possible that mining on a higher order decentralizes further as a result of that success, that we see more miner-pool formations? That's a stretch, but:

Assuming bitcoin expands like us maxis bugle about, and blockspace becomes so valuable, then if you're a business, a tax haven country, an LSP, PMC, a certain AI agent, etc, and you **DON'T** mine, you're going to require access to blockspace for large value settlements or urgent one-off tx's. In that environment of compressed commoditized blockspace, just broadcasting a tx with a high fee guarantees you nothing in terms of block inclusion for reasons lightly touched on in the last [post](https://stacker.news/items/417342) I wrote. I feel you also run the risk of trade friction with blockspace itself when broadcasting your tx, where the private mempools can otherwise keep the volatility in check, and pricing predictable, during certain stretches of demand. 

I'm just saying, maximalism actually playing out was never a home miner thing, that's bitcoin minimalism, where your grandma and DIYers regularly broadcast directly on the layer of gods. *Max*imalism, in mining terms, is an industrial grid connecting, public listing, commoditized derivative, energy recycling, contract making, fiat leveraging (while it's around), international and domestic settlement process. That includes a bunch of bureaucracy we have to work through. The latter is the cost of living on a subsidized fossil-fuel standard, where large miners choose to go public and get reg'd in exchange for access to debt markets and shareholders to grow. Correct my view below ⤵

This post is my follow up to @DesertDave's post here https://stacker.news/items/501355, per a short discussion we had in the comments. 

I think there’s something about this idea that resonates with most of us, so I thought I’d share the history and religious background to really dig into its original meaning. 

A couple of quick mentions:

* If you’re not a Christian and/or generally opposed to Christianity/religion, but you’re interesting in improving your framework to seek truth/meaning, I think there might be something here for you. 

* If you are a Christian or have a religious background, you’re probably familiar with a lot of this, but I made an attempt to add some unique ideas that may be new to you.

### Some background

The jewish people were living under Roman oppression, waiting on the fulfillment of prophecies about a Messiah that would bring salvation, not only to them, but to the entire world. This was commonly interpreted to mean that a military leader was coming to overthrow the Roman Empire. It was also common to believe that God would not send the Messiah until his people had reached some arbitrary threshold of righteousness. This resulted in religious laws becoming more and more strict over time. 

Jesus enters the scene, performs healings and miracles, and claims to be the Messiah. People are intrigued and follow him everywhere he teaches. But instead of gathering an army, he spends time with the sick, the poor, and the unrighteous (including some who were participating in oppression). Instead of supporting the religious leaders and proclaiming freedom from the Roman Empire, he broke religious rules and claimed that he is the escape from spiritual death. (Spoiler alert, this was the main reason he was crucified, but that's a different conversation).

### "Seek First the Kingdom"

In one of his first large public teachings (known as the Sermon on the Mount), Jesus implores his listeners to shift their focus away from following the rules or seeking a life of physical/material security. He would also say things like “You’ve been taught ‘Do not murder’, but I say that if you say to your brother ‘you idiot’, you are in danger of spiritual death.”[^1] Instead of completely abolishing the rules, he would get to the heart of it, and up the ante. He would say “You cannot serve God and money, so don’t be worried about your life and how you will take care of yourself. Look at how God takes care of the birds and the flowers - so much more will He care for you.”[^2]

He was preaching freedom from stringent rule following and the grind of daily life, and at the same time, telling people how to interpret the rules in such a way that would be life giving to individuals and communities. 

In this context, he states “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you”[^2].

### Going Further Back

Incredibly, this resonates with one of the very first written pieces of God’s word to his people. Rewind several centuries, the jews were working 7 day work weeks as slaves in Egypt. Inability to perform likely meant that the Egyptians would take advantage of your family in far worse ways. **It had been burned into their minds that their entire worth was their ability to work and contribute.** Once they’re finally freed from slavery, they’re given the story of creation - a beautifully written poem whose central focus is *inherent human worth* and the vital importance of *rest*[^3]. God says that humans are *very good*, **prior to any ability to perform,** and that **each week and day must begin with *rest*.**

*(Quick side note - the day of rest was a big point of controversy with Jesus. As mentioned earlier, there were a lot of strict religious rules at the time Jesus entered the picture, and Sabbath was a major example of this. The rules had gotten so out of control that following them had made the day of rest a burden. Jesus was notorious for blatantly breaking those rules, but simply responded by saying the day of rest was meant for our benefit[^4].)*

### Timeless Meaning

So, fast forward to today. It’s still so easy for us to believe that our worth is wrapped up in our ability to perform and to keep up. 

One of the most gripping illustrations in the short film @DesertDave shared was “device slavery”. It resonates because it’s so obvious. And I would argue that if it’s not our devices, you could fill the blank with so many other things, and they become rules of our culture. 

You must have:
* A following/likes
* The right job
* A side hustle
* The best takes on social media
* Enough money
* The *right kind* of money
* The right kind and amount of long term investment(s)

Technology is freedom. 
Privacy is freedom. 
Bitcoin is freedom.

**Our default is to strive for satisfaction in things that enslave us one way or another.**

When Jesus says “Seek first God’s Kingdom and righteousness and all these things will be added to you”, **he’s saying the same thing God said In The Beginning:**

* You don’t need to be anxious any more.
* Don’t worry about the rules or the performance.
* Take a break, slow down, stop trying to force it.
* You have inherent worth, and that is found by living in relationship to the Truth that transcends your individual existence.

Seek first the Kingdom is a far more revolutionary idea than the downfall of yet another empire.
Seek first the Kingdom is not about finding it within *yourself* to become a better person.

**This is the meaning of Seek First the Kingdom, according to the speaker:**

Go to the Source and you’ll have everything you need. Don't worry about the rules of society, don't fall for those false promises. Instead, **seek and cling to the Heart behind the rules of morality, and you will find the meaning and satisfaction you're looking for.**

Doesn't matter if you've been living oppressed for decades in a country without technology or if you're a teenager battling the effects of social media addiction in the comfort of your home in the suburbs - that's the answer.

Tip of the day: how to run your own LNbits in 10 min

## How to setup a LNbits instance on your own machine
I've seen lately many people that want to start play with LNbits.
And many are noobs in running nodes, or don't have already channels open, their nodes are not well prepared, running behind Tor etc.

So here is a quick guide how to install, configure and run a LNbits instance ON ANY PC WITH LINUX.

1. If you do not have a LinuxOS machine ready, I suggest to take whatever old laptop or PC with min 4GB RAM and install [DebianOS](https://www.debian.org/download) on it (or whatever other Linux you want). I prefer Debian because is pure linux, clean, fast, no bullshit and is the most compatible with all repositories. Set a static local IP for that machine. Install ufw firewall and open the port 443 in it.
2. [Install LNbits](https://docs.lnbits.org/guide/installation.html) using poetry method. Are just few lines copy/paste, no need to be a super linux coder to use them. Any windoze user could do it :)
Do not start yet the lnbits! Must be configured first.
3. [Use caddy option](https://docs.lnbits.org/guide/installation.html#reverse-proxy-with-automatic-https-using-caddy) to configure the https access to your LNbits. Is the most easier method and clean. Use a subdomain for your LNbits instance like lnbits.mydomain.com or bank.mydomain.com
3. Open port 443 (https) on your router and forward it to your local machine IP that host your LNbits instance.
4. Go to your domain admin web and edit DNS records to contain A record for your lnbits.mydomain.com for the IP you have on your router. If you have dynamic IP, you could use any DynDNS app to configure it using CNAME in your DNS.
5. Edit LNbits .env file and [activate the adminUI extension](https://docs.lnbits.org/guide/admin_ui.html) so you could manage it directly in browser.
6. Start LNbits with the siomple command "poetry run lnbits" (run in lnbits-legend folder) and in the startup console you will see the link to the adminUI. Copy and paste into your browser and start configuring your LNbits.
7. You will have to setup: funding source, users, authorized users to access your LNbits. Is good to limit the public access only to the users you create them.
8. As funding source, if you do not run your own LN node (that you can link it to your LNbits), you can use many simple funding sources like: lntxbot, lntipbot, lnpay.co, openNode.com etc. With https://www.lnpay.co/ is very easy to setup and they have good servers, you can open a free account if you do not have too much traffic.
9. If you do not want to keep the funds in these custodial funding sources, you can setup the LNbits extension scub and forward all the sats automatically to an external address. Or do it manually when you consider is the proper time. But anyways, use these custodial funding sources as testing playground, not for production cases. You can change the funding source anytime from adminUI, without any other changes in your LNbits.

My biggest fear as [we cease being the world's greatest power](https://www.amazon.com/Changing-World-Order-Nations-Succeed/dp/1982160276) is that our relatively high levels of freedom are blamed for our weakness and we start following the lead of whoever is the world's greatest power. Tucker's somewhat notorious [Russian grocery store and subway videos](https://tuckercarlson.com/tc-shorts-the-moscow-subway-station/) are an early version of the sentiment I'm imagining. Tucker doesn't blame freedom for the difference obviously, but if/when we decline, we'll start looking for inspiration elsewhere and elsewhere isn't very free.

If we are making a mistake believing our freedom was the cause of our dominance, it can also go the other way. As a person that loves freedom independent of its national utility, I don't feel confident in the conclusion that more freedom leads to greater dominance *unless* we hold everything else as being equal. And in the case of countries like China, everything else isn't equal.

Courage might seem like a distant virtue, a term that is reserved solely for heroic acts. But it’s a virtue that is also found in the way that we live our daily lives, in making brave choices even when they feel frightening.

To try is very courageous. To live a life where you try, again and again, is to create a life of courage.

To get started, take these four steps.

**Step One: Define what would be courageous for you.**

This intention is really important. Sometimes, even just admitting to yourself what you really want to do is a courageous act!

You also might have noticed that it’s often easier to be braver for other people than it is for yourself. Courage is frequently tethered to acts of goodness, like standing up for what's right or helping others. If you can connect your personal intention to the greater impact it will have, it can make a big difference. 

**Step Two: Break that courage down into steps.**

If you were going to act on that intention, would the very first step look like?

Fear often grabs the upper hand in this moment, because we mistakenly think we have to tackle the whole scary thing at once. But you don’t have to do it all today. You can break it into bits, a far more compassionate approach. Decide what the first step would look like (and make it as small as needed!)

**Step Three: As you contemplate that first step, label your emotions.**

​One study from UCLA shows how powerful this simple act of labeling can be.

Researchers asked participants with a fear of spiders to approach a large tarantula, getting as close as they could. Afterward, they were divided into groups and given different strategies to try to help them with their fear. The first group was told to label and describe their emotional responses to the spider (“I feel afraid” or “I am so nervous.”) The other groups were either told to downplay their emotions, say something irrelevant, or not say anything at all. When everyone was brought back a week later to do the same task, it was the first group — those who labeled their emotions — who were able to cope with their fear and move forward most effectively.

**Step Four: Try.**

Take that action. Send the email. Do the thing. Make the call. Show up. Speak up. Whatever it is, just try.

That’s all courage is: trying, even when you’re afraid. I believe in you. You can do this.

Scrolling through Nostr and engaging with people like usual, when I read something about adding gamification to Nostr, which got me intrigued as I'm always engaging in game development for years, from participating in game jams, helping gamedev friends, making my own games on the side, etc. So, I thought I'd go ahead and write this article to potentially influence Nostr builders to gamify their Nostr clients (apps or sites).

## Why Gamifty Nostr Clients?
To have people increase their engagement towards the client, increase their time spent on it, increase their interactions with it in a general sense as well as with other individuals using it, learn/discover more about the client's features and services, and increase their enjoyment of it.

## Achievements

The badge system is already out in the wild, so this should be a smooth implementation. Showing a badge earned, especially if it's a fun one or one that holds some community prestige, is someone that a lot of people wouldn't mind or even like to do.

A badge can have its own set of criteria for a user to acquire it, or it can be connected to achievements (Ex: Unlock the following achievements to unlock this badge").

I'd say showing a max of 3 to 5 badges on a profile is a good limit in terms of presentation, and tapping on them would open up the highlighted badge list, as well showcase the rest of the badges that a user has earned and have yet to earn depending on the client they're on.

Each badge should show the details of how to acquire it, and your progress towards getting it, as well as when it was acquired.

## Trophies

A user would also be able to present one trophy on their profile, and there'd be a trophy list to showcase all the ones you've earned and ones that they've yet to acquire, showing all the details of course.

These trophies should be the most difficult kind of reward a user would strive to earn. The way you'd earn one can be by getting various different badges and/or achievements or having its own unique set of criteria.

I'd also like to mention that the presentation for trophies should be more premium than the rest. Think of it like someone who has a trophy shelf or even room if they're that into it.

"Giga Ostrich", "The Ascender", and "Grass Toucher". These are a few examples of what a user can have as a title on their profile. It's fun and gives off the old social norm from the medieval ages of "Oh! He's a Lord!" kind of vibe.

These would act as rewards for completing specific achievements, or for earning badges or trophies. They can also have their own set of criteria to earn them. Again, these would have their own page and show them as a list with their details.

## Unlockables

Depending on what a user has managed to earn, be it achievements, badges, trophies, or titles, they'd be rewarded with extra features or services from the client, making their experience on the client more fun for themselves and potentially for others as well.

As an example, let's say a user managed to get a certain trophy that unlocked a feature within a mobile app client, and it's an RGB profile-picture border. Another unlockable might be having the ability to have multiple banner images that switch out every 3 seconds like a slideshow. A third unlockable example, that affects other users, is if said user with this unlockable reacts to a note/post, the end user sees a reaction animation play out on their end (look at Discord's Nitro emoji-reaction animation for reference).

Make sure to also have a page to showcase these unlockables and have a preview of them as well. This will trigger the user to go "Oh! I want this! and this! and.." which will drive them to take the actions needed to unlock them.

## Account Level & Exp

Having a general account level is commonplace. The more exp (Experience points) you get and reach a certain threshold that increases with each new level, you'd level up.

The way a user would gain exp is by generally using a Nostr client, where each action would net them a bit of that exp. Reacting, commenting, posting, replying, zapping, completing their profile, adding relays, completing achievements, getting badges, etc.


## Progress Bars

This is pretty straightforward. As you've noticed multiple times throughout reading this post, you should add progress bars wherever you can, within reason, so that users know how far or close they are from earning an achievement, badge, trophy, and/or title.

## Zap Bar

This idea of a Zap bar, where you'd set it up as a daily limit of how much you need to Zap people per day, week, or month, or to stop yourself from over-zapping people on Nostr, was discussed between Karnage and another individual.

This is definitely useful for people on Nostr, and to add to it, it would be nice to see different kinds of zap bars somewhere, showcasing analytics about your zaps from how much you zapped people, how much they zapped you, the number of people you zapped and got zapped from, and so on. This data would also be connected with other gamified systems mentioned in this article.

In terms of wrapping this Zap bar with a gamified context, we could think of it as a mana bar that you can spend on people with, and it auto refills the next day. You can also get "potions" to refill your zap/mana bar (more on that below).

## Quest System

Provide users with daily/weekly/monthly quests/missions and reward them appropriately upon completing them. These quests can be anything you want the user to do related to the client. For example, a quest can be about reacting to 5 notes from someone you follow, replying to someone 5 times, or quote-post a note.

Depending on the quest and what is required of the user to do, an appropriate reward should be given, from experience points to fake currency (we'll talk about that below) and other items like a new profile theme or profile element like a profile picture border.

This would of course have its own page, and each question would have its own details. Make sure to add some fun stories to each one, depending on the theme. If it's your average fantasy, you can write someone a long the lines of "The commander of Plebstr has sent out a bounty to all those who stamp their marks on the people's notes, spreading magical glyphs to its owners".

## Non-Purchasable Currency

Create your own client currency to be used as a reward for various other gamification elements, and to be spent on acquiring items from the store (we'll talk about that below) or to subscribe to an item or service.

Just a quick note, this isn't a cryptocurrency. This is just a normal fake currency that games have for their own ecosystem.

## Store

What's the use of a currency without being able to spend it somewhere? That's why you'd want to implement a store where players can spend their earned tokens to acquire various items ranging from different profile elements, profile or app themes, animations, different stickers or emojis, etc.

## Visual & Sound Presentation

In games, the power of visuals from the art style and animations, and the sound effects and music, play a huge role to enhance a user's gameplay experience. It adds that "meaty"/"umph" feeling.

Satisfying UI animations that play out when a user interacts with your app will go along way, along with adding sound effects on minuscule and major actions, from opening/closing a window/pop-up, to finishing a quest or completing an achievement, etc.

## Seasonal Events

Hold an event every now and then, random ones and seasonal ones, and have that up on a calendar that you'd implement somewhere in your client so that users would know if there's anything coming up.

These events can be about anything from the four seasons, anniversaries, random silly ones, competitions, giveaways, etc. Each of these events would have details on what they're about, what activities will happen, and what new quests, achievements, badges, and/or trophies are connected to it.

## Trading & Gifting

A user might want someone from another, and have something they don't need, so a trade might occur if that option is available and everyone is happy to get what they want from the people they meet on the client.

A user might also not want anything and would like to gift their items to another. The system should be there so that they can do just that, and the receiver would get a notification that they received a gift, see the animation and SFX play out and be happy about it.

## Pets

This system is bordering on the line of actually being a full-on game and not just "gamifying". Heck, it is a game. So a client might not want to add this, as it's definitely a very big extra, but can be a lot of fun if done right.

Do you remember that old game/toy "Tamagotchi" if you're old enough? Because this is basically it. Let's say you get a randomly generate pet based on your npub key, and it'll have its own wants and needs from food, water, taking a bath/shower, taking a dump or piss, its need to kill its boredom by playing with a bar or something, and its desire to socials with other pets, etc. 

Since Nostr is all about communication and social interaction, you would be able to somehow present it on your profile, make stickers out of it to send to others, and perhaps have a pet play date with others.

You can also implement clothing customization or environment decoration, which can be acquired through quests, achievements, etc, or through purchasing them from the store, or someone gifting it to you and getting it through a trade.

## Anti-Addiction Measures

All of these gamification systems and features are fun and entertaining, however, keep in mind that you might push people to a kind of addiction towards your client, so it is wise to think of ways to counter that.

For example, you could add an optional feature where once set up and enabled by the user, it would remind them to take a break every hour or two. Another example, although potentially a toxic one, is to apply a "curse" effect on the user's account if they've been on the app for a long while, and that can take away exp.

## Anti-Spam Measures

Considering that people want to get what they want, from the various rewards given by these gamification systems, they would potentially just spam their way through them. For example, if there's a quest that requires them to post 3 times per week, they might just post gibberish on all three notes. It might be the same for replying to people, commenting on streams, initiating DMs, sending items, etc.

A potential anti-measure for this is to implement a reputation system, that's clear in its communication, where others would give a thumbs up or down on a certain action, and if their reputation falls below a certain threshold, all users on the client have a toggleable option to not see any interaction from those with a bad reputation.

## Be Cautious
Keep in mind and be mindful of how you implement these gamification features and designs, as it might negatively impact other aspects of your users' experience and potentially the whole ecosystem. That's why the above anti-measures are mentioned, and there might be other issues that I might have missed to mention.
