Don't you constantly worry about where the kids are, what they're doing, or whether they're safe, how can you still focus on learning or writing while a part of you is worrying someone else?

no question they take up time and alter your focus, but for me at least, I discovered that it made me be more ruthless with how I prioritized my goals.

besides, it's a lot of fun to bring them along to all the things you want to do and see.

I learned one this way, it is def serve as an example! That's actually the whole point of learning a language: to communicate/get things done.

I am actually having the fear that how can I still do the things I want to do or see the places I want to see when have kids. Isn't that when you have kids, your whole focus changes?

you can get by with a small amount of grammar. For most languages. This goes contrary to what is often thought in schools, I believe.

This is my experience too! start with essential words with basic grammar, then pick up more words along the way, and keep speaking.

I used to run a language learning blog with more useful, language-specific tidbits, but sharing it would probably doxx me.

This. I secretly think many stackers are good at something, but they're too shy to share it or afraid it might dox themselves.

It all goes back to how kids naturally learn a language! Through constant exposure and use.

I think grammar is a bit overrated in language learning, I tend not to pay too much attention to it at first. Natives can understand what you mean anyway. And with fluent speaking practice, you can get the feel for it (the way kids naturally learn). That's why I really don't like how most schools teach languages, which tend to focus too much on grammar and words that have so little real-world use.
