Data for earlier months can be found on the April 2022 summary

BOLT 12 offers an attempt to achieve some of the core functionality that LNURL provides without requiring the use of a web server. An offer encodes the data necessary to reach a node to request an invoice to make a payment, either a node_id, or a blinded path (the last few hops in an onion route, pre-computed and encrypted) to that node using onion messages. It also can encode a minimum amount for a payment, the currency being paid in, an expiry time and minimum/maximum quantity numbers (for purchasing multiple items).

This is all of the information necessary to fetch an actual invoice from the node that issued the offer. Someone who wants to pay an invoice does so over onion messages, one of the core features of BOLT 12. It allows nodes to make a direct, end-to-end-encrypted connection between each other that does not involve a Lightning channel. Just like Lightning payments, these can be used to onion route messages. After obtaining an offer, a payer will use the information encoded in it to send an invoice_request message. The creator of the offer will then respond back with an actual invoice.

There is also support for generating unique per user offers that allow the receiver to request a payment from the creator of the offer, similar to LNURL's withdrawal request feature. BOLT 12 invoices commit to a unique payer key — this can be used in the case of issuing refunds to prove you are the person who actually paid the invoice. This can also be used in combination with the withdrawal offer to guarantee that only the correct person can succeed in getting an invoice paid by the creator, as opposed to whoever is able to get a copy of the offer.

LNURL works just fine, and is already very widely adopted in the Lightning ecosystem, it is just not a realistic solution for users other than businesses or services. BOLT 12 as it is adopted can fill that gap, and provide the same streamlined user experience for end users at home who are not businesses.

🗹 Search ban ? Ghost ban ? Reply Deboosting

Happened to notice the search ban starting yesterday after trying to find a Tweet that was on the SN front page. The Tweet exists, it just doesn't appear when searching Twitter for either the URL or for a phrase from the Tweet.

Is there no way to know why, and nothing that can be done?

This has been happening on two different devices, but using the same flakey wi-fi with both. I've seen my submissions be duplicated on SN for Posts and for comment replies as well.

Like right now, when I press the reply, it might toggle to disabled while it submits, and that might stay that way for like 10 seconds or maybe longer. SN is not the only site / service where this type of extended pause for a response will happen, but I've not seen the a duplicate submit occurs with other sites I might use. I can confirm my wi-fi frequently has latency issues, including times when I'll see like up to 6 second response times for ping (!), for extended durations -- 30 seconds or 45 seconds maybe, then things just resume at normal speed. Whether that's due to broadband connectivity, or maybe RF interference, or whatever, I have no idea -- and it's not my access point so I can't do much further troubleshooting. But I know I'm not alone in continued use of a wi-fi connection even when it frequently is flakey.

There was a fix to Issue #94 mentioned in SN's github repo, but that doesn't seem to have been implement for comment replies (as same rule could apply, no duplicate comment reply, from the same user at the same comment level). And I am pretty sure that still is occurring for the SN Posts too, so maybe that fix got reverted, or was ineffective?

This comment somehow got posted twice. Didn't notice that it happened until now.

That April 30th spike was interesting. It was early entirely the result of this one Tweet, by Alex Gladstein, in which he did a Quote Tweet of the StackerNewsFeed Tweet that was for the SN Post: "Full English Translation of the Central African Republic Cryptocurrency Law"

For the Twitter analytics, Link Clicks could be the link for the URL from an SN Link post, or it could be the link for the SN item itself. So, there's no way to tell from Twitter analytics itself how much traffic this feed drove to Stacker.News.

The number of profile visits is pretty decent, IMO.

Mastodon / Fediverse does not have analytics at the user level, so there's just a few metrics for @StackerNewsFeed@BitcoinHackers.org that could get reported.

That account has 66 followers, as-of today (March 6th, 2022).

Now that I see with Twitter Analytics you need to pull metrics from two different locations, here's a more complete picture:
