Revolt (fork?) by Bitcoin miners to change the protocol to increase their returns.
Friedrich Hayek: A Biography
Hayek didn't write it, but it is a very accessible account of his life and work.
I'm afraid I have to disagree with using testnet for this particular situation. The money needs to be small but real.
My suggestions (I run the Sideways node: 5 BTC, 40 channels, 5m minimum, but I started with Umbrel).
You should organize Lightning and Nostr communities on Umbrel and open smaller channels to each other. Only do on-chain transactions on weekend nights. Try setting 6 sats as your fee (watch mempool).
If you start this project I will open an inbound channel to you for free with zero fees.
Here's my short Nostr Pitch:
New social media protocol with the same value propositions as Bitcoin.
Open, decentralized, anonymous, integrated with Bitcoin Lightning, and potentially world-changing. Very supportive community.
Try it. There are many clients, but I currently recommend:
Getalby browser extension
Primal.net browser client
Charcoal Weber: 21" Kettle at home and GoAnywhere when camping. Propane never gets hot enough for a real char, and provides no smoke flavor. Webers are cheap and a great design.
Open Obsidian.
Go to "Settings" > "Third-party plugins".
Click "Browse" and search for "Nostr Writer Plugin".
Nothing shows up
Click "Install" next to the plugin.
Enable the plugin by toggling it on.
Great idea. Use Umbrel and add a dedicated Nostr relay for each island. That will supercharge adoption.
Your entry won the ticket to Bitcoin 2023. Send me your email and I will send/assign you the ticket.
When you get old, you only can put things in boxes you already understand. You lose the ability to envision new boxes.
If you are looking for help from some Nostr devs, please give our new #devstrjobs initiative a try (and some feedback). Search for #devstrjobs in any Nostr client or visit https://devstr.org/jobs.
I think of browser extension wallets as the digital equivalent of old-world coin wallets. Keep a couple of dollars (~10k sats) in spare change to buy gum and feed parking meters. High convenience, extremely low risk.
I am surprised there has not been a bigger reaction to the announcement that Nasdaq will be offering a Bitcoin service by June. The SEC/Gensler is unlikely to challenge Nasdaq, so we will most certainly have a mainstream Bitcoin to Fiat channel. This removes the single biggest remaining risk to accumulating Bitcoin.
My big takeaway from Nostrica 2023 is the nearly unanimous focus on enabling the sovereign individual.
While the phrase sovereign individual still rings awkwardly in my ear, it conveys an extremely important concept.
Bitcoin, Lightning, and now Nostr exemplify a new counterculture that supports privacy, decentralization, and freedom. This is in stark contrast to the mainstream which seems comfortable giving up privacy to corporations and governments in exchange for convenience and security. I have no idea which group is expanding.
