I want to get back to my Noob series, but I need to update myself first. It feels like I fell out of the wagon.

"You don't need an appliance to run a node."
reply
Like a neutrino node? Pretty sure you need a fairly hefty machine, at least a hefty HD, to run a fullnode these days
reply
I run a Bitcoin Core node, not pruned, on a laptop with 1T ssd. The laptop is pretty old, maybe 8 years. Works great, I keep it on most of the time.
reply
Have you tried IBD recently though?
reply
Last time I did ibd was 2024 (maybe like July).

Stargazing gives me the worst kind of existential crisis.

It gives me a good one. Why is yours bad?

Thinking whatever we all try to achieve in our own time zones behind this sheet of blue sky that we call day, is it all worth it? If the universe was conscious, we're so insignificant that it might not even acknowledge us at all. I never leave a chance to see behind this blue sheet when it gets nighttime, and I feel really insignificant, wondering what this whole life thing is. Why am I able to see it? I feel so insignificant Keyan. I'm also less worried about things and more enjoying my life. Like it's a movie I'm watching and enjoying it scene by scene, not like others who are worried that it will end soon. Since I started this stargazing hobby, a lot has changed in my life, and people think I'm crazy for not taking things seriously at all. I'm super confused maybe I wish I hadn't discovered this hobby and lived like others in a rat race. But in the end, we all have the same destiny - death of our body, someday our species, then someday our Earth. It doesn't matter.
Can I know how do you see it?

I see the grandness and the insignificant-ness as you do - but that's because you're switching to the reference frame of The Universe. No matter how insignificant I am to The Universe, I am significant to me, the only observer I really know.
reply
Thanks, this is a wonderful perspective.
It's a spine chilling experience to know that the possibility of you seeing stars is as rare as the possibility of forming a new universe (the chances of you being born are connected to the chain started through the Big Bang), and the universe kind of made things perfect and allowed us to see its beauty. I'm just wondering about the purpose of life. I don't know if it's proven, but we're literally living in an imaginary world (money, laws, country, modern life). So, what if humans didn't have this present level of consciousness and intelligence? I don't know if I'm able to say what I'm trying to say here right now. I'm wondering what the freak is this life? Is it what we created in mind and live in it? Or what is it? Is it even a thing?

Purpose is relative - your life has the purpose you give it even if the universe has no purpose for you. Just stop trying to think from the perspective of the universe if you get mentally stuck there.

Took my son to Chinese Garden MRT Station based on the strength of a poster. But when we reached there, we didn’t find any repurposed cabins as advertised on the Cabin Cycle purpose. Neither a Google search nor questions to the station staff yielded anything.
Not wanting to disappoint the boy, I then took him to the Mobility Park that was located at Jurong Community Hospital. He could recall that he had been to this “playground” twice, so I’m confident that he will remember this third visit as well. We were lucky enough to observe a nurse and her patient at work. She patiently and assertively guided her wheelchair-board patient to board the bus and MRT simulators, never letting out on her constant stream of instructions given in both English and Malay. I was heartened that my boy could quietly witness a professional doing her job; truly the most authentic form of career guidance I can provide him.
