The unique nature of my job is that while I lose my patience and raise my voice/shout at students rather often, I would like to think that I manage to keep a tight grip on my emotions. Of course, I have achieved this Nirvana-like state due to my many years in the service.
How about you?
when I lost like 150 rating points in chess about 2 days ago. REAL BAD!
reply
Is it a significant drop?
reply
Well yeah, I think so. (I'm hovering around 1500-1600).

Came to leave the same comment. Nothing more infuriating than losing at online chess. Feeling stupid in a way hard to describe. Like there's no hiding place for your ego. You're not as smart as you thought you were. You've been wasting years of your life playing a stupid game that you're too stupid to ever be any good at. You've studied for hours and hours and somehow managed to get worse. Either that or getting racist feelings even against those with the same flag as you. Convinced everyone else is cheating or else the chess com matching algo is out to get you. Only ever pairing you with cheats or smurfers. Oh the black pit of despair!

Okay hope these sats put a wry smile on your face

I got angry at my daughter for getting angry at me for “letting her” get hit by a ball after I told her about 10 times she needs to pay attention at practice or she is going to get hurt.
reply
You must have felt bad after that, knowing you.
Did you turn to ice cream as a perk-me-up?

I felt a little bad but also a lesson learned for her. Haha no I have been pretty good about not eating too much sweets lately.

Well done! 👏 Keep it up

I feel like I'm angry all of the time.

I actually have this mental image of you as the Incredible Hunk, given your focus on reps and abs etc. I mean, I look how you look like since the podcast, but my mental image remains

I thought I was nice and calm until having kids. They know how to push it sometimes.
reply
True. I thought I was the most zen person ever until I got my son. I discovered a new, less patient facet of myself.
reply
How many do you have?
I find it very hard to regulate my emotions when two kids are competing for my attention at the same time

Just 2.
Yeah, sometimes it's tough.

Meditation permits me to calm down my emotions.....and in so many aspects ( voice, thoughts, attitude, ....) I admit that i m practising twice a day (after i woke up and in the evening)

Do you use the Headspace app, like @ek used to?
reply
nop, i do not use app.
i practised technics learned 6 years ago (breath, Aum mantra, a few yoga postures to maintain lotus posture , maintain attention in the 3rd eye...)

You won't believe me, but even though I very rarely lose my temper, I lost it, just now, like 5 minutes ago, with a colleague over Telegram. I kept it mostly inside, but my words were just a little bit sharper, and I think he must have picked up on it. Logging off so that I can come back to my colleague with a more positive mindset in a few hours after playing with my son.

What was the camel that broke the straw’s back?
You must have accumulated a lot of frustration throughout the process of working with him in order to lose your temper
