Love how it’s my land and my city’s telling me where I can add an addition.. grr the initial builders moved the house over from the survey and the developer 30 years ago had an overlay so I’m getting screwed after already paying for blueprints and a deposit with a GC.

Five years down the road, I'd begun forgetting her existence.
It was not the blissful ignorance of a scorned lover that turns into a bitter regret when recognised; I'd forgotten her almost immediately once she wasn't there every day. Even when she was there, she'd been growing distant by the day, increasingly busy and worried by whatever great importance had become her responsibility. She lived on in gossip, rarely fearful, despite her rising rank; anyone who dared spread it was either close enough a friend to gossip freely, or so derisive of her haughty climb through the ranks, not to mention her every commanding word, that only resentment remained. I was somehow neither of those, and thus heard both.
I wouldn't remember the last time we met, nor the last thing she said to me, for almost a decade. I probably still don't. She faded out of my story, chasing her own, driven by her own belief in mission, purpose, and sense of both that sustains the young officer in the face of that inevitable cognitive dissonance that drives so many people away from military service. Her face never had hope of haunting me; I'd stopped wearing glasses after the recoiling ironsights had shifted them too many times, and I'd realised how distant from practicality was the resolving power that they might have allowed, if I'd ever had the time to aim, while also needing it. She never needed glasses; a cellphone was enough.
Praise would be wasted, anyways. I was first of her problems and last of her concerns, some junior too good at working alone for the work's good, who needed only to learn the cant of command and habits of its use. I couldn't have imagined, fifteen years ago, the panic of recognizing her after having realised I was dreaming, knowing that nothing anyone could say or do would make any difference after I awoke. The character in the dream was fiction, less relevant than what she'd forgotten about me.
I could care less what her rank is today, for she's the one who needs it.

@justin_shocknet a question about LV. Maybe also @k00b is interested. Would be possible to embed /integrate a LV clip into a SN post and readers if they want to watch the video will have to pay per view (as in LV) with a simple pop-up ?
reply
Yes, we actually have an embedded component for that already but its a bit derelict... SN would need to allow users to paste an iframe html code and then render it
An alternative to the iframe method would be rendering code in the SN app itself when an LV link is detected, sort of like youtube viewer for youtube links, but we haven't made an SDK for that yet
We've been focused on Pub and Wallet to get Pub more distributed, once that's settled we'll swing back to working on video to make it self-custodial and an SDK that leverages that
Using the nostr offers in video will help it integrate even better with SN too, they could still do their sybil wrap and count the payment towards engagement, could potentially even allow for uploads directly from SN without losing all the data we need to collect to configure the paywall and re-encoding options.

Starbucks closed the two stores that I use most often: the one closest to my home and the one closest to my work.
It makes me strangely sad. I don't even like Starbucks that much, but it was convenient to be able to order ahead and pick it up right before work, or right before getting home.
reply
Sounds like an opportunity for a good local coffee shop.
reply
There are plenty of great local joints, but Starbucks was my go-to for the order-ahead, pick up fast option. Honestly, I'm surprised they're shutting down---the stores always seemed pretty busy. Guess the $20 minimum wage was just too much.
reply
Cool, my guess is they just over-expanded. Its so common for companies like this to do and then right-size. Starbucks feels like it has reached saturation to me.
reply
Yeah there is one on almost every block. I just wish they shut down the one two blocks away instead of the one I go to haha

Does anyone else get abused by their family for insisting that you should get to the airport 5-6 hours before flight departure?
reply
lol. 5-6 hours. Depends on the airport.
reply
I always tease people for getting to the airport way too early. Relax and enjoy The trip
reply
That's exactly why I try to get to the airport early, so that everything is relaxed.
reply
I've been stuck in airports because of delays so many times. I usually have connecting flights so I always want to get there early.
reply
Hahaha
reply
Uh, I'm pretty strong on get to the airport early...and I get there 2 hrs prior to departure.
5 or 6 is kinda a bit strong.
reply
I'm exaggerating a bit, but not by much.
reply
Get to the airport or leave for the airport?
I'm 3+ hours from the big airport, so 5 hours is about right for that... have never had a problem arriving 90 minutes before depart.

I've only flown out of JFK a few times but I probably did my usual 1.5 hrs before boarding time. Does it take more than an hour to get through security?

get to the airport 5-6 hours
Ah leaving for the airport 5-6 hours in advance might be worth it.
reply
Yes. That's what I meant. If I'm alone I don't worry. It's the large groups with children and lots of moving parts that get to me.
reply
I'm the same way. To me it makes much more sense to leave early and not deal with anxiety, and even if you get to the gate too early--that just means you get to pick the best seats, and everyone has their books and devices to keep them entertained anyway, so what's the downside?
reply
Exactly. Waiting at home isn't any more relaxing to me.

I'm surprised you don't put these issues on github when you find them. You seem to enjoy finding them and we pay good sats when they end up getting fixed. Ideally you'd be a little more articulate when making an issue though (I often have to kind of deduce what "look here, see!" means).
reply
I don’t wanna use my GitHub account (which I actually just made recently) and I’m not looking to create another one. I find bugs by accident, I’m not out here hunting for them. And yeah, I’m not great at explaining stuff. I’m not doing this for the sats just wanna help make things better. Hope people don’t get the wrong idea when I share this stuff here on SN.

As an Armour Infantry soldier, I used to dread taking bus 975, which would transport me to my army camp, situated in a godforsaken part of Singapore.
Yet, today, I took the same bus with my children. Past my army camp because the dairy farm my son had yearned to visit was further from civilization than my army camp.
However, no feelings of dread plagued my heart. I won’t say that I was eager to visit the cow farm, but I wasn’t rejecting the idea, either. Beneath feeding the cows hay lay something more gratifying. My six-year-old boy has things he wants to do to fill his free time. May he never lose this zest for novelty.
reply
Singapore sounds like a good place to start a family. Why did you join the military?
reply
Military conscription. Compulsory for every male when he reaches 18 because of our limited population.
I served 2.5 years. These days, the government cut it down to 2 years 🤬
reply
Every man in Singapore has to serve in the military

The etymological origin of anarchism is from the Ancient Greek anarkhia (ἀναρχία), meaning "without a ruler", composed of the prefix an- ("without") and the word arkhos ("leader" or "ruler"). The suffix -ism denotes the ideological current that favours anarchy. Anarchism appears in English from 1642 as anarchisme and anarchy from 1539; early English usages emphasised a sense of disorder.
