Telegram is not end-to-end encrypted. It is only encrypted between the user and the central Telegram server, which is in Russia, of all places. It is almost certainly compromised by the Russian state.
We have NOSTR now, and no longer require a centralized service like Telegram. Please move on, people.
If you link the account to a non-KYC sim card, always use VPN and don't post any identifying info it should be pseudonymous enough. For really private comms start secret chat or switch to SimpleX.

A while back I tried starting an account with a non KYC phone number. Couldn't get it to work after trying for quite some time, Telegram always rejected it.

I really don't give a shit. E2E encryption is a total buzzword. Follow the simple rule: if you do not want some information to be known WHY do you post it on internet ? Always keep your private life separate from online presence. If you join to a PUBLIC group on Telegram is stupid to think that everything you post there is private. Same happen with nostr, if I post something on nostr, even on a private chat, I do not expect to be private, only if I use my own relay only.
So all this hate against Telegram is not necessary and dumb.
