Hi cowboys and cowgirls! I could use some assistance. I think sats cards are a great product from coinkite! You can purchase them here. I have given multiple loaded cards out as wedding gifts. I plan to distribute a few empty sats cards to family and friends as Christmas gifts. The website has much of the info someone would need to use the card but requires bitcoin knowledge. Additionally BTC sessions covers how to use it here.
Bounty 11,111 sats I need a one-page PDF handout (can be double sided) with super-easy click-by-click guide at a 5th grade level, with attractive normie-friendly visuals.
I don't care if they know how to remove the funds, only that they understand that “not-your-key-card, not-your-bitcoin”. I want the person to have a simple guide on how to load the sats card which I can distribute when I give them the card. Example:
On-chain only method:
- Download River from the app store. Follow the necessary steps to purchase your bitcoin. The minimum suggested amount to load the card should be $100 to $250. Ideally $1000+ per card if feasible.
- Download nunchuck wallet from the app store. Tap your sats card to your phone's NFC chip reader. Copy the on chain bitcoin address associated with your sats card.
- Go to River, paste the on-chain bitcoin address. Send.
Lightening swap method:
- Download River from the app store. Follow the necessary steps to purchase your bitcoin.
- Download nunchuck wallet from the app store. Tap your sats card to your phone's NFC chip reader. Copy the on chain bitcoin address.
- Pull up boltz.exchange. Type in the amount of bitcoin you wish to send to the sats card. Paste your onchain bitcoin address, “Create swap”.
- Pay the invoice with your River account or other bitcoin exchange
I am looking for someone to go into some more detail and add helpful visuals. This cannot be a wall of text, it needs to be broken up and FUN. Your assistance is much appreciated. Bounty paid out by 12/25/25.
A more simple method and nicer, if you really wants to use cards:
But you should always be aware to WHO you are giving these cards. Most of gift cards end up lost.
Done.
Here are mine:
The purpose of this “SATSCARD” is to create a vault. No education on transacting or medium of exchange. This is a get off zero.
Thank you for the reminder about NFC cards, good option for those with bitcoin knowledge and desire to continue to learn.
I'd avoid suggesting apps, especially if they require KYC. That's inconsistent with the bitcoin ethos. My suggestion is to simply focus on the SATSCARD onboarding; the receiver will figure out how to spend, or how to fund, the bitcoin in it whenever ready for it.
I put together a printable tri-fold for you, but that I'll actually use in the coming weeks. It has a dedicated space for placing the SATSCARD and another middle space for writing some good wishes notes for the receiver. You can check more detail and source file here #1339714
a "SATASCARD" is only an "N" away from being a "SANTASCARD;" 😅😅😅
This is very pretty, unfortunately does not align with the bounty instructions. It seems our ideas on intro level bitcoin savers (not users) are different.
Thanks for the feedback! I understand we have different approaches, so let me explain the reasoning behind mine—I think it might actually better serve your "intro level saver" goal.
Consider this scenario:
If you need funding instructions, I can create a separate supplementary sheet for "When you're ready to add more Bitcoin" that covers funding options without KYC requirements (BTMs, peer-to-peer, etc.). But cramming that into a gift introduction, I think it just creates cognitive overload. Better to gift the card already loaded, no?
Too complicated this method especially for nocoiners. Just use the LNbits method.
Getting someone to load the card gets more private keys into the hands of men and women.
This is a great initiative; thank you for sharing your ~Design needs with us! It sounds a bit complex to me, firstly because you are suggesting different methods to the receiver.
What makes you think he (or she) will know how to choose, or what's the difference between, on-chain and lightning? Especially if a newbie, the receiver will probably be confused by all these steps and apps to download and use... I bet they will leave the sats in the card if they are not familiar with it. Good to onboard new Hodlers :)
Why not just have a pdf for each, one on-chain and one LN? Then you pick, depending on who the gift is for, to attach one handout or the other with the satscard?
BTW, it's lightning, not lightening lol, I knew this #1296088 would have turned out useful again.
I do not think the newbie will understand on-chain/lightning. I want them to follow outlined steps. How much should they know? I do not comprehend lightning 😉 although I use it often.
I want them to leave the sats on the card until they are ready to learn more, at which point they will start asking questions. Getting someone to load the card gets more private keys into the hands of men and women.
I did this wrong so many times and lost so many sats that I feel confident sharing with you something that has been working for me many times now, giving them Bitcoin + a card. Let the gift be simple. Let their curiosity drive the next steps. That's how you create savers, not confused users who abandon under confusion.
Would you be open to a two-part approach: (1) Gift introduction (my design) + (2) optional funding guide? So you can also choose to gift the cards empty (for them to fill) or filled for some of your special and dear ones.
