@koob can you inform stackers what is the half life of downzaps?

Do they lose 50% of their effect every 4 hours?

Or is the mechanism different to this?

Or is it a secret?

No worse feeling than being too tired to prompt. It's mostly because I lack a parallel orchestration system and need to prompt and review serially.

Soon™️ I will create a k00b-shaped orchestration system where I can mindlessly queue up some half-baked stuff, where each bake is isolated from the others, then a review queue can build up.

It'll be like a todo list that makes incremental progress for you.

Are you not worried about drowning in cognitive debt?

reply
51 sats \ 1 reply \ @k00b 8 May

No. k00b-orchestration[1] is an independent concern. It relates in that it should give me more time to maintain/refine the project's theory. It's about:

  1. optimizing for cognitive flow
  2. focusing on one kind of thinking at a time
  3. not sitting idle while bots work

I think of it like cognitive specialization: I work on one part of the assembly line at a time vs creating a single doodad end-to-end at a time. e.g. today I build many doos, tomorrow I build many dads, day after tomorrow I attach all the doos to the dads.

  1. To prove i'm serious about this fantasy, I'm thinking of calling it ironfire, as in many irons are in the fire. ↩

Well, I hope this works out for you.

This occurs only if you don't read the slop.

reply

Writing an essay isn't the same as reading it. I think the same is true for code.

reply

If you read the slop and then do nothing, you've wasted your time anyway. Might as well stop breathing valuable air.

reply

I rewrote the auth flow by hand in the PR because I was drowning in slop, couldn't even follow the original flow. We've applied patches on patches that just made the slop so evident that the LLM itself then backed out at some point saying that it doesn't make sense.
Normally I could spot something that doesn't make sense, but honestly I got exhausted.

The real problem, that imo can play a part in causing cognitive debt, is that reading slop is a chore. You have to fully read the slop, then try to reason very carefully the slop yourself, then you realize it's bullshit and you re-prompt, the cycle continues until you're tired and lose interest.

If I can put my tinfoil hat on for a moment, the fact that providers now prefer a lower reasoning effort it's a clear sign that we're going to prompt more and more, aggravating the issue I've mentioned above while spending even more.

edit: this is mostly subjective, it's my fault and my personal life is already stressful so it plays a part in my behavior towards slop

I didn't say you should use slop code for production. I recommend against it. Have so for a year now. You can use the LLM for detection though. But that means that you have to read and take action based on what rolls out. And that somewhat helps you retain your cognitive strengths, also because you'll quickly learn the limitations of LLMs.

What I mean though is that if you generate slop, you have to read it, and understand it, just like you mention. Without that, it's worthless. Not to the general public, because the general public loves to get rekt in a data leak. The general public loves getting their CHD stolen. The general public loves that people are being kidnapped for as little as 10M sats simply because the general public doesn't have 10M sats. And judging by the number of bitcoin ecosystem apps that I've had to either not install, or fork, or uninstall due to excessive slop, bitcoiners are no different: no one gives a fuck. Buidl broken shit.

You're right that manually coding stuff, given that you have the skills to actually produce code, like yourself, works much better. It doesn't mean you have to be a Luddite though; it just means you have to keep using your brain.

The son was fairly upset that I had picked him up late. When I probed him for the reason, he said that he wanted me to photocopy something for his entire class.

That something turned out to be an intricate drawing of an ant colony. The fact that he could stay focused and bring his imagination into life impressed me. More importantly, the fact that he exhibited leadership by wanting to include his peers in his pursuit of knowledge was a warm balm to my tattered soul on a workday.

I had an open thing to check on the latest ringrtc release: why, if you use jni-sys@v0.3.1, it also gets jni-sys@v0.4.0.

From jni-sys@v0.3.1:

This release applies the semver trick to re-export compatible types from jni-sys 0.4 (namely jobject) to make it easier for jobject references to be passed around between APIs depending on different versions of jni-sys

From semver-trick:

The semver trick refers to publishing a breaking change to a Rust library without requiring a coordinated upgrade across its downstream dependency graph. The trick is built around having one version of your library declare a dependency on a newer version of the same library.

The devil’s trying to discourage you? Turn the tables on him. Make it abundantly clear, both in your thoughts and actions, that as long as you live, you will never give up, you will never succumb to the pull of the underworld and that the only one who has any authority over your mind, body and soul is God himself, and no one else.

Your demon’s trying to wear you out? Wear him out with your relentless striving for virtue, love, truth and God. Show him that inside that fragile, fallible, aging physical body is an eternal, indestructible soul whose light can never be put out, dimmed, nor denied. That you have found and embraced the Divine within you, and that only a fool would take a stand against the infinite.

Anyone having zap issues with Albyhub today?

getting lots of zap fails.

reply

Alby is a LN interface, not the node itself...

reply

Coinos is more reliable and the fees are lot lower.

I use sats, @Darthcoin uses CC shitcoins, because using sats on SNs is too hard on his nodes.

Coinos fixes this.

Calling @DarthCoin for help! I'm trying to receive SN zaps using Zeus. I don't have an Olympus channel opened. I use Zeus to control my own node. Is there a way to open a channel with Zeus without buying an Olympus channel? I really don't need one.

reply

You DO NOT need any channel with Olympus in order to use the NWC server/client.
Let's be clear: Olympus LSP is NOT required for any case you want to use Zeus. You can use it with whatever other channels/peers. Yes, are few special use cases when Olympus is required, but not in this matter.

You just need to activate / create a NWC account and you are good to go.
The only thing I am not sure (I didn't connect it with SN) is if it will crash the server side app as I described here: https://github.com/ZeusLN/zeus/issues/4023
Sometimes is doing that.

reply

Thanks

reply

But not sure if you really need Zeus in order to use your own node with NWC...
You can link it directly or even running your own NWC server on top of that node.
Zeus NWC is more for mobile only users, with embedded nodes.
I think you overcomplicate it using Zeus for that specific use case.

reply

Yes. I'm just playing around. The SN Zeus wallet setup is just to receive to a lightning address. Now I'm trying the NWC SN wallet hookup. I use mobile a lot. I might just open a channel to Olympus anyway.

reply

I repeat: you do not need Olympus channel to receive payments.
The only thing you have to do (if you use private channels) is to activate route hints in your invoices. For public channels is not necessary.
Not that I do not want you to open a channel with Olympus, but to explain you how it works.

Thanks. Ok
