Who's downzapping everyone? There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason

Novel thought police on a power trip that got a taste for manipmaxxing after burying the BIP-110 AMA. Don't worry, ideas worth reading are preserved in top-by-downsats.

It's not like stackers will fight - we learned that earlier this year. So like a good bunch of sheep we will wait for it to pass.

Look at the top downzapped posts though. There doesn't seem to be a real pattern to it

reply

I've been following it closely. It's frontpage-editing.

Don't look just at the downzaps, look at zaps and boosts too.

Edit: PS: your gql scripts can answer your initial question - just query comments by sats, re-sort by boosts. Then you have a name.

A name as in who's doing it? I don't think the public API exposes the zaps table (who zapped or downzapped who). But I can definitely get posts/comments and sort them by boost / downzap / zap

reply

Boost is always to self, so that is why you can <3

reply

Ah... hmm hmm! Good point.

Though, if I make a post exposing them, they could change their tactics and use sock puppets to zap their own posts, rather than boosting.

reply

Yeah. I personally wouldn't give much more attention to it than we're already doing, really. People like attention.

What about privacy? Shouldn't such a privacy leak be fixed? Are @k00b and @sox aware of this?

Hmm, interesting. You might be right. What would you say is their agenda?

I could make this the special topic of my next Stacker News Monthly, haha

What would you say is their agenda?

"Because I can".

So who is it or are you afraid to name them?

Fight for what? The temporary position of items on a niche website?

I almost downzapped #1349267 because I was very annoyed by some very old post showing up at the top again, and it wasn't immediately clear. But then I realized I can just wait a few hours, or someone else is going to "fight" for me.

reply

Negative zap balance isn't temporary. It affects discovery.

The position of lit items is temporary. I didn't say anything about zap balances or discovery.

But I guess you mean we're fighting for discovery?

reply

You asked fight for what. I told you what. You don't fight for something as retarded as how lit looks. You fight against suppression.

So if I downzap very old items that aren't on the frontpage, you will notice and then boost them to fight against suppression?

reply

No, I said we're not fighting, we're being sheep. Because no one cares. And I'm not rich enough to fight that war on my own.

reply

Why are you triggered by downzaps?
