๐Ÿงต HOW TO CREATE THE SAFEST OFFLINE BITCOIN WALLET ๐Ÿ‘€โšก Read until the end!
๐Ÿ‘‰ Creating an offline Bitcoin wallet with Electrum on a USB stick with Tails involves a few steps but can be done relatively easily if you follow the instructions carefully. Here's a detailed guide:
๐ŸŒฑ Step 1: Download Tails (Operating System) and Electrum (Bitcoin Wallet). The software will come together with Tails. The first step is to download the Tails operating system and the Electrum wallet. Tails is a privacy-focused Linux-based operating system that can be run from a USB stick, and Electrum is a popular Bitcoin wallet that can be used to create an offline wallet. You can download Tails from their website (https://tails.boum.org/) and Electrum from their website (https://electrum.org/#download).
๐ŸŒฑ Step 2: Prepare the USB stick Insert the USB stick into your computer and format it as FAT32. This will erase all data on the USB stick, so make sure you have backed up any important files. Give the USB stick a name, such as "Bitcoin Wallet".
๐ŸŒฑ Step 3: Install Tails on the USB stick Follow the instructions on the Tails website to install Tails on the USB stick. This involves downloading an ISO file and using a program such as Etcher to write the ISO file to the USB stick. Make sure to verify the ISO file to ensure that it has not been tampered with.
๐ŸŒฒ Step 4: Boot into Tails Insert the USB stick into the computer and reboot the computer. Press the key to access the boot menu, which is usually F12 or Esc. Select the USB stick as the boot device and boot into Tails.
๐ŸŒฒ Step 5: Disconnect from the internet Before opening Electrum, disconnect from the internet by clicking on the network icon in the top right corner of the screen and selecting "Network Connections". Disable all network connections. Usually, Tails does not connect to the internet automatically.
๐ŸŒฒ Step 6: Create an offline wallet Once Electrum is automatically installed with Tails, open it from the Applications menu. Select "Create a new wallet" and choose "Standard wallet". Follow the prompts to create a new wallet. Make sure to save your seed phrase. This will create an offline wallet that can only be accessed when the USB stick is connected to the computer.
๐ŸŒฒ Step 7: Save the seed phrase After creating the wallet, Electrum will display a seed phrase. Write down the seed phrase on a piece of paper and store it in a safe place. This seed phrase can be used to restore the wallet if the USB stick is lost or damaged.
๐ŸŒณ Step 8: Disconnect the USB stick Once you have created the wallet and saved the seed phrase, disconnect the USB stick from the computer. This ensures that the wallet is completely offline and cannot be accessed by anyone else.
Congratulations! You have now created an offline Bitcoin wallet with Electrum on a USB stick with Tails. Remember to keep the USB stick and the seed phrase in a safe place, and never share the seed phrase with anyone.
๐Ÿ‘‰ To receive Satoshis (yes, Electrum also supports Lightning), you may save the QR code picture on your computer so you don't have to boot Tails all the time. You may also send some addresses to some .txt file ๐Ÿค
Hope you enjoyed it!

Very niceee

This is fun and have done something similar in the past with paper wallets.
Though hardware wallets made this all super convenient.

I agree with this tried and true method. It is all free and open-source software.
Your last point
The lightning QR can be re-used? Its a static lightning QR?
reply
I think he refers to the QR for the xpub that can be used later as a watch-only to generate new deposit addresses.
reply
It depends the way you want to use the Lightning wallet. If you want it only for deposits, you may also create others so you don't need to pay much taxes. Case no, you don't need to.
reply
you don't need to pay much taxes
you mean fees, not taxes.

It seems most lightning wallets generate a new QR for each payment. So I'm asking if you are sure this will work if many people use the same QR code to send different amounts over the lightning network

I created a multi-sig with 3 paper wallets on TAILS using sparrow wallet with persistant enabled. Later Iย bought some sats using robosats on TOR. It's just a bit more work to swap from LN to onchain. For this, I didn't think about electrum. I tried bluewallet, but they are sunsetting their free node. Muun was not working to create a new wallet. So I found coinos.io to swap.
