My favorite poker hand from today’s session:

89 suited (spades) and im first to act. Blinds are 1/2/5 and I have 500 in front of me. I raise to 15.

The very next player re-raises to 35, another calls. And the rest fold to me.

Normally being re-raised in this configuration this is an easy fold however his sizing is incredibly small. There’s $93 in the pot currently and I only need to pay $20 to continue with the hand. I call.

The flop ($103) is a nice 8c3s4s
I check. The pre-flop re-raiser bets 40. The player in between us folds and I call.

The turn ($183) is the Ad. I choose to lead here because I really want to see a river card and I would like to decide how much for instead of risking taking a check/call line. I bet $55–less than a third of the pot.

The small size lead here works very well I thought for a few reasons. If he has a hand like AT, AJ, or AQ (all suited) then he will for sure call but likely not raise. If I didn’t bet the $55 he may have bet $75-$100 with top pair and I don’t want that price to see my river card. Too, if he has a hand like 99, TT, JJ, QQ, KK he’s in a world of hurt. It sucks to see this ace roll off when I certainly have Ax hands in my range and then I start betting. And since all of those hands are better than my current pair of 8s getting them to fold, especially for this price, is a fist pump scenario. AND if he has hands like QJs or KQs, which have a lot of equity against my single pair, I am denying his equity as all of those combos that don’t have flush draws are folding now. All for a small price of $55.

My opponent takes 30 seconds and folds his hand.

Reminds me of a political ad running in Texas right now which is from this podcast: "I always think of myself as a Christian who hates Christianity."

Was the ad against Talarico or for Talarico?

reply

Against. IIRC it ends with "Talarico is too weird for Texas."

I saw this wallet being talked about on Nostr, the almighty DC was in the thread 🧵

It's called LaWallet

Any ideas if it's sp/ark under the hood? @justin_shocknet 👀

I know Darth was testing it, so doubtful it uses a fake L2, else he wouldn't touch it.

I can't really tell what it is, says its a Nostr CRM and mentions NWC... calls itself wallet.

No obvious mentions of the underlying node on web pages or github readmes, so I'm thinking its an interface for generic NWC backends.

I just learned how to sign offline, then broadcast the transaction! magic internet money indeed.

I don't know if Tether holds its own bitcoin keys, but they claimed to in 2023:

While it is common practice among many institutional investors to third-party custody their Bitcoin, Tether believes in the philosophy "Not your keys, not your bitcoin" and takes possession of the private keys associated with all of its Bitcoin holdings.

Apparently, whoever does hold their keys engages in quarterly proof-of-keys drills:

In the midst of decluttering my monstrous pile of papers, I painstakingly typed every phrasal verb highlighted on a study guide on my blog. It might sound like tedious work, but it was precisely because I took time out that I realised that I could prioritise the phrasal verbs whose meanings are vocabulary that he would need to lock in by the end of primary school. Examples, hold back -> hesitate, put off -> postpone, look into -> investigate. This mundane afternoon left me with a concrete strategy to bring the son’s knowledge up to speed.
