Bitcoin is very conservative. And that's cool on the one hand. It's practically an indestructible titanium.
But what do you miss when using bitcoin? Why do you think it takes so long to accept the Taproot update? (many wallets and even more so exchanges do not support Taproot addresses). Are there any difficulties with this update? Maybe I just don't know something Do you need any fundamental changes in the protocol itself or the focus should be on second level solutions, such as LN?
ELTOO
reply
As always, information to study)
reply
Without eltoo, nothing important could go forward on LN developing. Is just playing around and trying to hide many issues under the rug, like dirty dust. But eltoo needs also some updates on onchain.
reply
op_ctv. Combined with CSFS it can do eltoo and other things like non-interactive lightning payments (as in receive lightning while offline)
No matter what covenant proposal you support, we need covenants to scale. You may have heard about how it would take a year or whatever to on-board everyone onto lightning plus all the open and close channel txs. Eltoo fixes that by enabling channel factories, but the original BIP for eltoo (BIP 118 APO) also enables covenants. So no matter how you look at it, we need a BIP that enables covenants to scale.
tldr: Want Channel Factories? You need a soft fork.

Man, how interesting it is to understand all these issues. And it doesn't get boring. Thanks for the comment, a lot of it I didn't know yet.
I would like for people to stop looking to change bitcoin.

I completely agree, the most important updates I would still like to see are stronger security/encryption over time, as computers evolve that will be able to break current encryption methods
reply
Maintenance and improvements are necessary, but the process should be incremental in my opinion.

I'm more interested in the Taproot question. What do you think?
reply
That's a complicated question. I was in favor of it for all the good it did, like Schnoor signatures and Coin Join. I never foresaw the ordinals thing. IMHO the benefits outweigh the problems.

Free market implemented between active (on-chain) and passive Bitcoin users, in post-subsidy era.

Quantum resistance.

I'd like to see the culture become more conservative, cautious & exercising verification procedures on mass and understand how/why this is important.
I'd like to see the culture become less about chasing hopium news headlines and price rationalizations and macro naval gazing and more about best practices for technical Bitcoin usage and protocol development.
I'd like to see the culture exercise their sovereignty by running nodes, configuring nodes for their preferences and being vocal about why.
I'd like to see the Bitcoin culture become informed sovereign citizens of this emerging society, Instead of larping as something else.
I'd like to see less harm and gaslighting via nihlistic phrasing designed to disempower you from understanding and participating fully in Bitcoin-ing.
I'd like the Bitcoin development culture to be more humble than they already are about the choices they make and the narratives they push.
I'd like to see more Bitcoin implementation options for everything from full packages, to mempool options, to toggles for pruning your node for things like witness pruning for specific harmful spam.
I'd like to see MASF become recognized culturally for the harmful activation method it is.
I'd like to see the Bitcoin culture be worthy of Bitcoin.

Very extensive approach to the question)

No need to change Bitcoin is working perfectly fine

I'd like to see it become much more difficult to change.

I would say that the slow adoption of Taproot, Lightning etc. is high time preference meaning as long as everything is working and fees are low there is no incentive to invest in the future. Some companies took years to adopt Segwit, transaction batching etc. However it is volatile in Bitcoin world and dinosaurs are not flexible and may not survive every shock in the ecosystem.

Privacy by default. Users can get some by using lightning, but I still feel it is not enough.
