I agree with the covid theory as part of the bigger point that I think he was embarrassed to be associated with bitcoin and all of the supposed political and cultural assumptions that are made about its supporters. We embarrass him. I admit I still like to read his stuff and watch his lectures. I'm trying to separate the books from the author. I'd rather just say fuck that guy.

Allen Farrington absolutely destroys Taleb in this article; https://allenfarrington.medium.com/a-tale-of-two-talebs-1775dff3302b
It is a really long read, so set aside some time. It is fantastic, like all of Allen's stuff.

He is corrupt and close to the money printer in Lebanon

I've read the article now. He makes some very good points.
I still don't understand the drama though. In the context of what he's getting across, there ARE imbeciles in Bitcoin.
Just look at all the SN posts promoting web3, shitcoins, and twatter links!
Very few contributors actually create original content.
Even fewer bother to research and put forward a viewpoint outside of their bubble.
reply
The "outside of the bubble" thing is a key impediment for growth, I think. Most of the action (including on SN) is regurgitating the usual talking points from the usual btc celebrities doing the rounds on the same old podcasts. The level of bitcoiners engaging with the world -- meaning, thoughtful people who have original things to say -- seems to have peaked around 2016. With a handful of notable exceptions since then, it's been an echo chamber.
In 2013, let's say, if you ran into a bitcoiner, the ensuing conversation would likely change how you viewed reality. If you run into a bitcoiner now, the conversation is likely to make you think that bitcoin must be a scam, to have such vapid imbeciles as champions.

Hear hear!

I think the drama goes to his assertion that bitcoin fails as a protocol. His point that unlike gold, it must be tended to and nurtured or it dies. To me, the heart of his criticism goes to properties that existed when he wrote the forward. Bitcoin didn't change. He did.
reply
aha. such sensitivity. much doge.
he's totally right of course - bitcoin needs nurturing, or it does die.
and you are totally right also, nothing changed in bitcoin.
if only such "outrage" at online opinions could be directed towards positive outcomes..
such as education, and adoption.

He’s an ex Wall Street guy isn’t he? Therefore he has most likely been leant on to push anti bitcoin sentiment.

I believe it was related to bitcoiners questioning the covid narrative.

He went psychotic over the question of mask efficacy when this is so anciently settled matter in fact!

The Masks Are For Surgeons And Anyone Cutting Open Living Bodies Wanting To Avoid Causing Infection.

That's what my medical training for body piercing said and I doubt it's any different in any credible medical training establishment.
If someone's spit is that deadly you need an NBC suit. A mask is like a giant gate with spikes all over it only in front of the paved driveway into your property.

  1. Maybe got scared and sold when he was under.
  2. Didn’t find yield on Bitcoin.
  3. Bought shitcoins instead and got completely rekt.
Which is more plausible?
reply
Maybe he couldn't handle the risk associated with bitcoin. Maybe he didn't find a way to handle it. And he's stubborn and now spends time trying to get other people in his boat.
BTW. Knowing about bitcoin but not having the guts to hold it is a sign of weakness and it exposes people to themselves as time goes on so far that they are not as cool and level headed as they thought they were. And in this case tallim just goes with that it seems. "This is me now"

yeah, bitcoin will test you, you you wana win you gota work either way

I watched this spectacle as it was unfolding and got soured really badly on this guy whose genius at probability is unquestionable. How can a guy who obviously has a solid grasp on game theory make such a ridiculous blunder?
Only way I could figure it was birdies in his ear and/or lots of money. Preferably both.
The visual at the top contains enough text to sum up how mangled he has it.
Ad Hominem? Really? Isn't defining Bitcoin as All Cryptocurrencies a straight up error of ontology? A tool of manipulation? Doesn't this guy know logic anymore? Is he just a bot and the real guy is being tortured in gitmo?
Either way, the signal is all noise these days.

You might like this video of Lyn Alden destroying his previous paper on Bitcoin.
What i think happened was he was doing a lift while watching TV and saw an FTX ad. Sam Bankman Fried's little boy-pus distracted him and lead to a plate hitting him on the head.
Ever since he has hated Bitcoin because of brain damage.
I think an imbecile is someone who lumps Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies into one group for the purpose of his thesis.

I personally don't really care. People change their minds for many reasons.
It's not really of importance to me, or Bitcoin for that matter, to try to guess what are the reasons for a change of mind from a person.
You could say the same but in reverse about Michal Saylor.

Too emotional, but also wanting to be controversial like a teenager.
Probably didn't sell either. Influencers 🥴

According to Saifedean Ammous he never really was a Bitcoiner although Taleb wrote the foreword to the Bitcoin Standard.
Other folks are talking about Taleb's ghostwriter when referring to the author of The Black Swan etc. ;-)
