tbh my college town (Davis CA) is probably the most bikable (there's like 2 bikes for every person) but a boring answer and it's more of a town than a city.
Mexico City, 100%. Wouldn't own a car in a million years here. Metro is 5 pesos, the city is flat AF (built on a lake bed), and the architecture invites you to soak up the city's beauty.
I have lived and visited a few walkable or mostly walkable cities: Tokyo, Wellington NZ, Taipei, Hong Kong. I enjoyed the lifestyle which enables more compact cities and exploration, and the odd time I need to go further an uber or rental car is enough.
The car-required cities I have lived in were often ugly, spread out, and lacked the romance of ‘bumping into an old friend’ on the street.
Cars have their purpose though, each to their own.
I'm in Frisco, and it's considered the most walkable city in the US. It's hilly which is a gift and curse. The frequent elevation changes make for an awesome electric biking experience. It's such a pleasure.
It is hilly, but it doesn't have snow and ice on the ground for 3 months or more. It doesn't have the pedestrian or traffic density, but has everything within walking distance. It's full of parks and surrounded on 3 sides by water. It's similar to Manhattan, where I've lived before briefly. Manhattan has Central Park and zero highways running through the borough. They score close imo, but SF wins.
Pontevedra is amazing, but I have lived in Vigo for a while w/out a car and it was a nightmare to go to the beach.
Reaching Playa America (30 km from the citycentre) takes 20 min by car, but more than 1 hour by bus!
Moreover, if you're not resident, you have to pay every time you change bus, crazy!
I think I've figured out a hack to get lots of rewards: just zap birdeye's posts early. His posts always get to the top, and therefore early zapping of them gets me a nice slice of the rewards pie
We could argue and say that's not gaming but how the algorithm is supposed to work haha
Since you have identified good content and help to push it to the top for which you're meant to get rewarded
But it sure does feel like gaming. I have similar feelings when I zap SN release posts early. I even have an unfair advantage since I get notified due to mentions, lol
(before anyone complains, the SN accounts have been hardcoded to get less rewards)
Just to be clear, I don’t actually plan to do this, I just noticed the opportunity and found it slightly humorous.
Why not? I think you should do it and tell us how it performed but no pressure ofc :)
I was even talking to a friend about how you could see SN as "investing in people". Like if I zap every post from @super_testnet just a single sat as the first person, how much would I get in rewards?
Would definitely be interesting imo. Like a different score board.
How many more PRs til I get added to the reduced rewards list?
Haha, I think you're close. If you continue with the good work, we might have to consider it lol
Sydney.
The central city is beautiful, clean and really pleasant to walk. There's also really efficient public transport options to both get around the city and explore the neighbouring suburbs. They have mass transit double decker trains, as well as underground metro trains, and tourist light rail trains. There's also busses with their own bus lanes & if you need to get somewhere fast you can take an Uber on the toll tunnels to avoid traffic.
Not in the US, but in Europe. Iasi City, central area, Copou district, Botanical Garden of Iași, Pallas Mall entertainment area. Walk, admire, and buy anything you need or want!
Tokyo. You can walk anywhere in Tokyo. It gets a little rough in mid summer but even then there are so many vending machines and convenience stores around you can just keep buying Pocari Sweat to keep yourself hydrated. It's also a good city to cycle.
Many cities around the world are fantastic for walking, specially if you live closer to the central part of the city. But even then, cities like Paris have great public transport that connects you everywhere.
I can’t believe only one person mentioned Singapore
My country is literally a little red dot on the world map. Our historic landmarks and districts are located near each other. Best of all, you can duck into an air-conditioned cafe or shopping mall to get some respite if the weather gets too unbearable haha
