Just how fkn cool social media can be. SN reminded me of that.
SN is refreshing, simple, elegant. Meanwhile, mainstream social media seems to grow ever-more convoluted. Every platform has to shove their own version of TikToks into it, shopping interfaces, etc.. Twitter (X) is literally trying to be the "everything" app -- it's all nonsense.
I appreciate just how focused Stacker News is @k00b @kr @ekzyis
Honestly, I’ve learned a ton. Take a look through my post history. I was new to lightning, and now I’m working on code to enhance SN’s LNURL pay support. Pretty awesome!

Don't wish too hard for something. You might just get it. I tend to worship decentralized everything. SN shows me that a little centralization might not be so bad. Don't get me wrong. I love nostr. I just feel like I get more out of my time here.

Agreed.
There's an understandable knee-jerk reaction to any mention of "centralization" among some bitcoiners, but i don't think embracing the centralized-decentralized hybrid world we're in right now is a bad thing. All depends on your goals. NOSTRizing may be the better longevity play, but certainly is harder to get adoption in the short term that way. But leaning into centralization to simplify onboarding first before reorganizing to nostrize later may also be a good play imo, i'm sure k00b has thought way way more about this than we have lol

I learned that the community values more quality discussions than posting bullshit.

I've learnt that it is possible to communicate freely without any restrictions. And get sats. Bitcoinization and Nostrlzation. Financial and communication freedom. Both for economic sovereignty.

It's a cliché, I know, but I've learned that you really don't know what you don't know.
Very few days go by on SN without discovering something new about bitcoin. Can't say that about other platforms. SN's signal to noise ratio is pretty impressive. I hope we can keep it up.

I was using for some years reddit r/bitcoin (especially during the block size wars), but didn't post almost anything, more reading.
I notice that reddit became a shithole and the voting system was easily manipulated. So I gave up, I left and didn't open it again.
Then I found SN (I am one of the first readers here). Actually the 1st github on SN repo is by me.
SN show me that giving is carrying and you can even get back more. But some stackers are zapping too much (amount of sats) I think. They will regret it later.

But some stackers are zapping too much (amount of sats) I think. They will regret it later.
The only point where I disagree here. We obviously don't want to deincentivize zapping which I'm sure we agree on, but I think actually incentivizing more zapping and getting that zap velocity up is what will make SN a more vibrant exciting place to be! If everyone zaps more, people may not necessarily be losing too many satoshis if those sats end up coming back around quicker to posters/commentors

If I zap 1 sat or 100 sats in one upvote for your comment, it will get the same trend ranking. But if 100 stackers will zap you 1 sat then it will have a better ranking position... you understand what I mean? The amount of sats I will zap you is more like an appreciation for the content , from me, but the vote remain just one.
I myself I have specific ranks in offering sats: 10 - 21 - 100 - 1000 - 2100 etc depending on how I see that content important for me. This is something that you cannot find elsewhere.

I see and yeah I agree. The amount of satoshis people zap isn't necessarily what should be incentivized, but the frequency at which people zap I think is important! Zapping often indicates active zappers -- let's get that number as high as we can! But yes, the tricky part is incentivizing generosity while also weeding out the bad content that doesn't deserve zaps

I learned there's more freedom here to express my love for Bitcoin then other platforms.

Truth is a core value of most bitcoiners. Can't say the same for shitcoiners!
