I think something is wrong in displaying the top stackers. Maybe is including some of his own deposits ? IDK It should be a clear distinction between sats from posts, sats from deposits, sats forwarded.

I think the same happen with my account. During the "pay it forward" some stackers send me directly sats (maybe using LN address) into my acocunt not through zaps on comments. btw, I am still waiting for more people to join to that thread, I still want to continue with the sats I received.

Yes, sometimes I have the feeling that if I zap too much sats, I encourage that behavior and create that false impression of the word that siggy47 likes it

I am not against zapping high amounts, but only when is really needed. For example the crowdfunding post for Anita or great meta posts that are the interest of all stackers, the author did a lot of PoW to write it etc.

To make a post rank higher, it's better if more stackers zap it, yes. The influence of your own sats on a post is logarithmic. So your first sats have the highest impact.

Also consider that if you zap something a lot of sats but everything else not (much), you're creating a high bias towards the thing you zapped. People see that this one thing got a lot of zaps and everything not much. Not sure if that's what you want.

So imo spread your zaps across more items instead of a few high zaps.

For further reading (if you can read SQL), here is the function which sets the amount of votes based on sats after you zapped an item. And here is the item rank view defined.

I do this very often. I don't want to concentrate my zap only on few comments and then realize that are also more to zap, I zap gradually, and if really deserve more sats, I go back and give more. Or even reserve some sats for the replies, if there are.

Yes, I do this too!

I really think all this content we create here will become a lot more valuable over time.

When we've got a lot more users (and I mean a lot, like 10x or 100x), old content will be viewed probably more times than it has been so far and will get zapped again.

I sometimes look at old content and think: "Wow, that's really good stuff but it just doesn't have a lot of sats since SN was still very small back then."

But with more and more stackers, more and more stackers will go back and zap these hidden gems. Hopefully, we will also make them more discoverable at the same time and add some incentives to also zap old stuff and not just recent stuff.

But @nemo deletes all his comments so he misses out on this, lol

Oh, no, I have written a lengthy reply even though I started with "will reply in more detail when I'm back home" and I think I lost it by opening SN to search for something while keeping the PWA open (/cc @k00b)

I only wanted to reply to this part:

do consider putting on your adversarial cowboy hat sometime @ekzyis, at least occasionally, it might be good for your future :)

In summary (I really don't want to write all of it again, I think I literally wrote and thought what to write for 20min or something. That's what I get for trying to reply while walking, lol. By the way, also not good from a security perspective, haha), I wrote that I really appreciate your reply and you are right. I used to do this more for privacy, too, not only for security in general - even though privacy is a part of good security.

Goal is to get back into Linux. I have used Ubuntu before (long time ago), so my original thought was to get back to that, but there are a lot of Linux distributors, most I haven't heard of. Any recommendations as to which one to choose? Your feedback is always appreciated

I would recommend Linux Mint, which is Ubuntu under the hood but with a much better interface and better package manager defaults.

It doesn't matter too significantly where you start though. Just get back into it and if you switch later then you switch ;)

You will get a million opinions on here from people who know much more than me. If I were you, though, I would start with Ubuntu. When I first tried it about 10 years ago everything was a pain in the ass-wifi, printers, etc. It is easier than Windows now, if you ask me. Very convenient. Then, you can hunt around for distros to try. I think Darth recommends straight Debian.

Going to help to one of my friend for buy bitcoin in person. He just started to learn about bitcoin 2-3 months ago but already changed most of his fiat saving to bitcoin. I always amaze on people who are so open for new things. He is one of them. He called me few months ago that "I remember you said some cool things about bitcoin and although I don't really know what it is after all it made sense. Don't you wanna meet one day to discuss how this works". Obviously I did not rejected to meet with him and introduce hime to Bitcoin. I really enjoyed the meeting especially the first one because he was so open to listen and try to understand. The end of our first meeting I told him that do not trust anything what I said. Go on, dig deep, do your own research and verify the things which I said. He liked that and he quickly started to do his own research. Few weeks later he calls me again. I pick up the phone then he says "you know what?! This bitcoin thing makes lot of sense. This is something that I am searching for since long time. I loving this options that I can verify things. I am in! How can I buy some bitcoins?(he means sats🤣)". Since then he can not resist to send messages everyday about how cool this thing is. HE IS GOING DOWN IN THE RABBIT HOLE 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Loving to witness this

ᕦ(ò_óˇ) Day 7 of exercising everyday before the saloon opens

As mentioned yesterday, I took the train to some place I haven't been yet so I can walk back 1-2 hours.

However, I wanted to take my chances and didn't get out at a stop which was close to how far out I want to be but still a little too close.

The next stop however took longer than I expected - I didn't want to look at the map to make it more adventurous - so I was now 14km away from home which apparently should take me 3 hours. But this is fine! I'll just walk as long as I can. If I really can't do the whole walk, I'll just take the train again :)

I've gotten a bit late since I still have 8.8km to walk even though it's been 2 hours already since I got off the train. Maybe writing this already took me 20min+ (my phone is slow).

Another reason may be this: While walking, I encountered company premises for a gravel pit. There was a sign earlier but it didn't say that this will be a dead end. I didn't want to turn around and walk all the way back so I thought I just enter and look for another exit.

However, it only went deeper and deeper so I needed to find another way out. I looked at the bushes and found the railway I wanted to follow. There was a track I could continue on on the other side. So when I found a good spot through the bushes with thorns and the slope down to the railway, I took my chances again and crossed the railway. To not take too many chances, I listened for trains coming before taking the leap.

Everyone do some meditation today. It can take you as little as a minute. Just sit or lie down with no distractions around you and breathe in deep slow 4 counts with your nose, breathe out through mouth for a 4 count. Repeat for a minute or two, until you reach 10 reps. Or 20 reps. You will feel noticeably different, it works for literally everyone, all races, all creeds. <3 Do not rush.
