Hi!
Can I create my own lightning address using phoenix wallet? I have my own domain and VPS but no node. All the tutorials I have seen require setting up a node. Can it be done without it?

I'm not sure. I've been using nodeless.io as I'm not super tech-savvy. So instead of my LN address being myname@abccorp.com, it's abccorp@nodeless.io

How's that working out for you? I'm trying to orange pill a low tech business and nodeless might be the way to go.

Super simple. I've really been enjoying it however, I don't have a tonne of interest from clients in paying via Lightning.
I'm not a dev, so aside from running a node, I feel it is my duty to USE Bitcoin wherever I can, to support the network.

Zaplocker.com gives you a lightning address without a node and without the server having custody. But you'll have to set up a lightning address forwarder if you want it to use your own domain.

A guide for you here with all info about LN address
https://darthcoin.substack.com/p/getting-started-lightning-address
No. Phoenix is not providing such option, but still is providing a LNURL, that is more or less the same as a LN address.

Is there perhaps an alternative to phoenix that is self custodial and has the ability to create an ln address? I want to have a permanent address instead of generating lnurl every transaction

I have read and the only options I have are:
- running node and configuring the address server
- use the custodial wallet that will generate an address for me

I will repeat read the introduction part of the guide and ask yourself
https://darthcoin.substack.com/p/getting-started-lightning-address#%C2%A7why-you-should-use-different-types-of-ln-addresses
That is the most important question your should ask yourself.

Ok, so I should just use ln address from custodial wallet to accept public payments and then transfer to my private wallet?

Please read again and THINK.

most of the above options require their own node to generate invoices

I guess that the part after the @ depends on the provider.
For example, in Coinos.io you can create your LN address and it will be: in my case criptopanas@coinos.io or in Stacker News username@stacker.news....and so on.
