Howdy there, partner! Welcome on into the Stacker Saloon.
Saddle on up to a stool and spill the beans about your day, fire away with them questions, or let loose and give us the lowdown on your wild and woolly life. We're all ears, so don't hold back!
We're open round the clock, so mosey on in whenever you please!
Is anyone using Simplex Chat? I just convinced family members to give it a try. We're just messing around. Any hints/tips?
reply
We have a SimpleX group.
As with every new messenger, make sure you can receive messages in the background. The app needs to be allowed to run in the background without the OS killing it.
reply
Any of you using wavlake? I've published some tracks but there's something weird, only one receives sats. I know, taste is random but yet, others tracks have a bit more "quality" overall.

For all those Milei fans... I will just drop this here:
My advice: don't be a fool, and put your hope into a guy that is only saying things you like to hear. NONE of them (politicians) are on your side. Milei is not your ally, is not your savior. YOU are your own savior. He's just doing a theater.
Just be a sovereign individual and fight for Bitcoin adoption by every single living wo/man in this world. This is the ONLY way, not the political way.
... and... FUCK'EM'ALL
reply
Unfortunately some people want to believe he's a saviour. I mean, in Brazil was the same with Bolsonaro and everything turned upside down. Not sure if everything is literally theater, but LAtam is going from bad to worse quickly. Basically people cannot trust in courts, judges, physicians, so what's left? Politicians, as a salvation board. But ya, fuck em all.

FYI @k00b I just found a bug after rebasing on master today:
This is not the default export, so https://github.com/stackernews/stacker.news/blob/master/components/item-full.js#L6 needs to either use destructuring, or the component needs to become the default export.
This caused rendering errors when viewing items locally
I'd open a bug but this feels more efficient in this case
reply
Nice catch. I'll fix locally

Dumb luck :P

Long story short, I met a girl while exploring recently and got into some deep talk with her, many conspiracies, including many things that happened were well planned. She then mentioned someone quite famous in the Arabic world, it is like that lady can "predict the future", like she predicted an earthquake in Morocco or some other recent things.
She just told me that the lady said the internet would be shut down worldwide on Oct.11; I don't know how real this can be, like is it even possible? I could not find much info in English, has anyone heard something similar?

LOL again this bullshit with shut down of internet?
I will be happy without internet, in this way Klaus can't do anymore his evil things. When people will understand that this whole shit is a lie? Internet is how they can control you. If they shut it down, you are FREE.
Klaus, please shut down the whole internet! Finally we will be free.
reply
I'm also fine without the internet now, but it's interesting to think can they really do that?
reply
No. Is just another way to control people: FEAR.
reply
that is how I think, so people would believe that lady more because she can "predict the future", which most likely got tipped off some information in advance.

did she say this year though?
yes, it's next week, I will download some books just in case.
Would the world go mad if that will actually happen? But wait, people in the past live happily without the internet.

I think one of the best ways to learn anything is to be surrounded by the best people you could possibly find in that area, observe what they do, how they think, what they read etc. like I was a normal Bitcoiner, then I found out SN and look what happened to me, so toxic now 😂😂

Follow up: I was posting new "seed comments" throughout the day, and just finished the last one. If you checked in earlier, there's new stuff in there now that might trip your trigger, so stop on by!
Not necessary to have read the book to get something out of it (I don't think).

Howdy partners!! Wednesday is here and it's the middle of the week, feels like forever this time, it has been rather busy and recovering from a nasty cold makes things a tad slower it seems but it's time to step it up and give a nice push to keep on keeping on, fall is about to start and the colors on the leaves started to show already, so it seems it will be a nice season, I wish you all an incredible hump day and may it be filled with success and joy, you've got this because you know you matter and you're important, let the journey teach you and be thankful for all the things you've received and all the things to come, always be thankful, thank you thank you thank you my friend for being, be well and stay frosty!!!
reply
I hope you feel better soon. The weather today is absolutely perfect. Not cold, not warm, but right in the middle. Stay frosty sir.

ᕦ(ò_óˇ) Day 19 of exercising everyday before the saloon opens.
8:30AM -> snooze -> got up 9:30AM instead of 9AM as usual
Getting up later than I would have gotten up if I didn't plan to get up earlier is .... always interesting.
Just went on a small walk today and paused and pondered. Tomorrow, I will go to Berlin for btc++. I will probably use the time to write blog posts about privacy and/or SN's trust algorithm since I don't like programming on a laptop.
What's interesting is that most hackers / people who play CTFs seem to program on laptops. They also program on laptops on competitions (for obvious reasons). I can't imagine myself doing that. It's too frustrating to not have a big screen and a proper keyboard and mouse. Also, sitting in front of a laptop on a desk (or worse, actually on your lap) doesn't feel good posture wise.
reply
since I don't like programming on a laptop.
I haven’t owned a desktop in probably 15 years! Though I do have a setup at a desk for my work laptop. All my SN work is done on a laptop directly though. Interesting how we have varying preferences!

Something to reflect on for You, a quote by F. Nietzsche:
''There are no facts, only interpretations."
I hope some fact checkers can check on this one as it made me confused and crazy this morning!
reply
I am the internet's premiere Interpretation Checker and I give this Nietzche quote a down arrow.

Facts are interpretations that has been proven 🤔

So this is fact?

Yep. Facts! 😅

reply
You like it? I was writing a short story and didn’t feel it was going anywhere. These are a condensed version of the opening lines.
reply
I do like it. I was wondering if there was a literal inspiration. Really old hands can be shocking. I remember looking at my great grandfather's as a kid. They terrified my sister.
reply
Yeah. My grandfathers…. He lost the use of them towards the end. He was a craftsman in his dsy
reply
My great grandfather made it to 101. He had a backwards immigration experience, where he went from wealth to poverty. By the time he hit his mid 90s the skin on his hands was almost completely transparent.
reply
And that’s an interesting statement about reverse immigration - kinda where my short story was headed. In this case; A man treading water, minding his own business, yet being blown backwards by his government & inflation.
reply
I don't want to pressure you, but it would be great if you posted your story here when you are finished writing it. I understand that you might want to publish it elsewhere first.
I like that. I think about immigration and its impact on families generationally a lot. This isn't the place to fully discuss it, but my mother's family's immigration story from southern Italy to New York City was really crazy, a little funny, but ultimately devastating
Wow. I remember my friends grandmother - her skin was like tissue paper…
