Bitcoin has a way of reorienting priorities/incentives in your life. But are there ares where you maybe shouldn't have shifted so much?
For all the nonsense that bitcoiners rightfully call out, what things do you see bitcoiners maybe not giving enough credit or disregarding?
Early on into my Bitcoin journey, I definitely got into the minimalistic "go all in on one chair" mindset (@Onions post reminded me of this lol). Sold a crap ton of stuff I had lying around, did my best to seize what I could once I understood Bitcoin. And I definitely don't regret that.
Metaphorically speaking though, after a certain point, I kinda realized "you know, I like having chairs for my friends and family too!"
I'm certainly not knocking on minimalism, and certainly still am very minimalistic, but it's all too common for some in Bitcoin (and markets in general) to get into a similar mindset but go too far, putting off enjoyment of their life in the moment for some future expectation.
Don't wait for something that's never guaranteed!
Spend your Bitcoin. Replace it. You've heard it before..
How long it may take for bitcoin to become the standard. There are many reasons for this but I have found that with all the talk of time preference many of our fellow bitcoiners do not appreciate how different our world view is from the majority and how deep the fiat brain rot runs.
Bitcoin dominance will happen but the only way I see it happening in the next few years is in response to financial collapse in the US. Otherwise it will be generational. I have tried to change my perspective to generational thinking. Too many of us focus on getting rich vs preparing the way for a better world. A more free world.

It probably wont ever feel totally "hyperbitcoinized" in our lifetimes. For the real full swing in psychology too, that'll take decades, maybe a century
reply
That's the way I think it will work out. And I'm OK with that. We were out today and I'm reminded of how long it took for people to shift to shopping online which is really a minor change.
reply
There is a case to be made that it will happen much faster than we play out still though. We're thinking linearly, based on past history, but the rate of change is growing exponentially.
Shopping online definitely took longer since it required people to also adopt the internet first and foremost. Word got around much more slowly prior to the internet.
Bitcoin on the other hand already benefits from having a speed-of-light communication network up and running, and adoption is thus taking place much faster
Hard to tell how quickly/slowly things will actually speed up. With AI entering the equation too, I think we underestimate how much impact that will have in driving new tech adoption

True, could be gradually then suddenly.

Truuueee, many do not understand that blockspace is scarce too

I'm more like okay all I need is two chairs, but I want to have the good quality ones so that I don't need to waste time on them in the future - not gonna buy fancy chairs but finding craftsmen to make them together, in the ways I like! 😂 and ideally pay it in sats!

agree, not gonna lie I feel guilty spending Bitcoin, so I only spend them in the things I really need.
reply
Haha it is definitely guilt inducing -- feels much better spending in person than online though

That gif perfectly represents my living space (except the large run). Big space, yet completely empty and devoid of furniture.
Why waste money on furniture if i could stack more sats? I was already into Minimalism before i was a Bitcoiner. I actually don't mind not owning much things.
I find that having just one chair and one table is sufficient for me, as I eat and study in front of my computer. I have a bed only because it has good storage underneath for my random belongings, and a wardrobe for my cloths (which i'm planning to get rid off).
I'm in the process of decluttering my wardrobe and to donate most of my clothes to a nearby place. I've realized that I don't need 20 shirts and 5 pairs of shoes; I can live with much less. A few 3€ basic black t-shirts and 2 pair of shoes (casual and formal) are more than enough for me.
My ultimate goal is to only own what is necessary and be able to fit all my belongings inside my car (or future van) in case of an emergency.
"I will own nothing, and be happy." - as much as i hate people who are behind this quote. I must say this is the reality i choose to live, well before they said it.

Here's a little song i wrote, you might want to sing it note for note, own nothing, be happy
in every life we have some trouble, when you own you make it double
own nothing, be happy own nothing be happy now own nothing be happy own nothing be happy own nothing be happy own nothing be happy....

I will say, being minimalistic like this certainly does streamline your life, frees up a lot more mental space for decision making about other things
All in moderation for me I suppose, as long as it suits your lifestyle then you're golden

Not all bitcoiners of course, but many: The difference of people. Some people don't believe in God. Some people don't want to have children. Some people don't want to eat meat. Etcetera, etcetera.
Let people decide for themselves. Given the strong correlation with libertarianism and individualism, it's strange that some things are taken for granted, and people who don't conform are ridiculed, shunned, looked down upon.
reply
Yep, bitcoiners are gonna have to get used to....everyone...using it
reply
I think it's scarce since there are only 21 million bitcoins. Many people lose sats or btc because they don't store their keys properly or leave them where they shouldn't and all those sats that are lost can't be recovered
reply
I feel two ways about it because I do agree we need to enjoy life as well. We shouldn’t be hyper focused on getting rid of all for one thing but on that same thought bitcoin is exceptional because it’s proven and does not feel like I’m betting just hoping on a good future I know a good future will be there with Bitcoin if not for my self but for future generations. Bitcoin always makes me think of the future more than the present day.
reply
the closer you put yourself to a full bitcoin standard, the more "in the future" you are living...you see the abundance bitcoin brings to the future, meanwhile most fiat statists are nothing but doom and gloom
reply
For me gambling shows the doom and gloom of fiat the most. If you can win thousands off of little bets then it is not really valuable. Like you said every time I buy hodl or zap my sats it makes me think of the future where fiat ties you down to only what is in the moment no real thought or reason why just mindless consumption with fiat.
reply
I did the same, I slept on a white mattress in my empty room for 2 years accumulating as much as I could. Sold my brand new Tacoma, sold every valuable, etc… I don’t regret that at all.
I would NeVER spend my bitcoin. I will generate yield on it in the future
reply
yield is a fiat mechanism, no yield on a fixed supply asset over the long run
