I knew this day would probably come, but didn't expect it so soon.
I am being investigated for running an illegal money transmission business in Canada (nodeless)
Under the advice of my lawyers I need to shut down the main instance of it.
As you guys know I made Nodeless completely open source in the event that this happens, so that others who don't live under communism can run a honest, privacy focused payments business.
To my clients who are using it, I'm very sorry for the short notice but you'll need to find a new payment processing solution this weekend.
DM me on telegram and I will personally walk you through setting up a btcpayserver instance that you can self host, or even your own instance of nodeless.
I can't give much more information than this, not even supposed to say this much, but I owe it to you guys to let you know what's going on.
To install nodeless on your own server, you can get started here: https://github.com/nodeless-io/nodeless-monolith
I wasnt familiar with nodeless.
What was the illegal part? Were you converting + moving fiat too? Or was simply routing BTC enough to count as "money transmitter"?
reply
Been testing it and they don't appear to touch fiat. My guess is it is that they have no KYC and are custodial.
Were they custodial?

serious question: how does wikileaks stay online?
reply
It’s in the name. Can-nada. Can’t do anything there anymore.
(Or exact translation…can do nothing)

There's a silver lining to this, to my knowledge BTC is classified as a commodity similar to gold. To continue with this investrthe Canadian Government would have to officially declare bitcoin as money. I appreciate all the work that Nodeless has done to help simplify payment processing for users but I have to also thank them for putting this issue on the governments radar. Your fight is our fight. Keep building and stay free my friends

Unbelievable… The great news is that Chinada does then recognise bitcoin as money!
Do anyone knows if there’s any law that explicitly define it as illegal?
reply
Well, the government isn't really concerned about double speak. It's money only when it's illegal 😞

I noticed something interesting, when you clicked the link from the title it's there.
But then if you go to the account page, you can't see this post...

Edit
Now I'm curious to see how can have this weird date problem? like you can send things out but not showing in the client sides, how cool?
( I was thinking maybe primal muted the post or something... but I also tried other client sides also not showing somehow )
reply
Different relays.
reply
I don't think this is the case and it turned out it just "posted" 24 mins here in primal, so interesting!

Building Bitcoin company in EU, Canada, Australia or USA is asking for free trip to "gulag". Escape the regulatory hellholes.

That sucks. Good luck!

Sorry to hear. Did El Salvador making Bitcoin legal tender end up screwing you?
reply
Not my service.
reply
I thought maybe El Salvador legal tender opened up a pathway for them to include bitcoin as money because it is legal tender in another nation.
