Wrote this for my students and thought I would just post it here. Have a great week stacking!
We like our school motto, “Never give up”. It inspires us to stay strong.
Yesterday, we had Reading Tuesday. Our English teacher read to us a story about beginnings.
When he saw the word ‘flowers’, he shared Hiroshima’s bombing with us. He told us that red canna flowers bloomed after the bombing. It represents the “never-give-up” spirit.
We were delighted to learn something new. From now on, when we need to persevere, we will think of the canna flower.

Writing is not hard, the real hard part is editing - the constant struggle with your own thoughts.
I usually do this in the mornings when I have a more clear mind.
reply
forgot where I heard this but...for every hour of writing, 10 hours for editing!
i take that as more of a mental model than taking it painfully literally
reply
"pain" indeed, with lots of thinking - thinking takes so much brain power, but then you feel so great after it's good to go into the wild!

Knowing what to include and what to cut is definitely a supertalent.
I often fail to remember that not everything that comes out our brains is articulate or relevant. 80/20 rule still applies.

yes, I usually focus on the cutting and making things easier to understand.

reply
All the time. My brain is like a walking jukebox. Put 20p in it play/hum/sing/say a few lines of an earworm and that's me off on it all day.
reply
glad to know im not the only one
reply
You know, I think you should have a bad song contest on the music territory. I can't imagine what form it would take, but it might be fun.
reply
i'm curious to work out how that would look, in a fun but not shitty way. music is very subjective and people have their opinions on things, some groups get quite militant about what is and isn't good. i'm not sure i'd want to encourage or even invite the opportunity for people to be toxic about something someone else had submitted.
eg. i submit a track and say this is crap and heres why, but turns out it's your favourite song. i wouldn't want to begin offending people because i'm effectively saying their opinion is "wrong" or "shit" or they "don't know what they're talking about". or it could be interpreted in that way, light hearted banter is difficult to do via a text based forum, tone doesn't come across effectively and i don't want to be inviting that kind of negative discussion to the space. but there is a difference between having a joke and being negative or potentially hurtful.
however having said that, i do think we could have a light hearted bounty post. post the worst song competition? light hearted and the highest zapped submission takes the bounty? that way it's not really about discussing peoples views on the track, it's just kinda not taking it seriously. it will certainly require some careful thought about how to do without getting peoples backs up.
what would we call it? "Shit Song Saturday?" 🤣
reply
Sounds like a plan!

What song? Check out ~music might help get a new song on your mind.

You young guys have probably never even heard of the guy. Its not that I hate him. He just annoyed me for some reason. He was a goofy bastard. reply
That's the guy, and that's his best known song. I went to a baseball World Series Game in Baltimore in 1979. During the 7th inning stretch he came out on top of the Orioles dugout to sing Thank God I'm a Country Boy, a really bad song.
reply
Couldn't name a single track of his other than country roads. But also. It's not a genre I'm hugely familiar with.

Fun hack of today
@ekzyis failed to deliver his promise on decoding the rankings, so I'm taking the burden onto myself 👀
I always wanted to understand how the top posts/comment ranking works, and here is my findings: basically each stacker has one vote, but the real interesting part about this vote is each with a different weight, I guess it has something to do with the trust score; and I've noticed this for a while, e.g. 2 high trusted stackers > 8 good trusted stackers, but then 10 good trusted stackers > 2 high trusted stackers, it's like the combination of the power, dancing with each other, so cool.
Another hack I've learnt is you can guess your own trust by seeing the rank of the comments that you've zapped, and ofc guessing others' trust.
would you to learn more hacks? I'm writing a more detailed article on the art of stacking, with many unshared analyzes and insights, zap if you want to read it; Or shall I sell it? so "secrets remain secrets".
reply
Also, I still haven't understood why sometimes we get rewards for top posts/comments and other times it's for zaping early. cc @ekzyis
reply
because it's being experimented atm, either rewarding the top posts/comments or those who zapped top posts/comments early.
reply
do you know the criteria for being one way or another?
reply
it's actually random ( you can kinda of guess it tho - 50% chance 😂 ) but the honest way to do it is keep creating + zapping = stacking.
