I just wanted to make sure it isn't only my impression; the thing is, that within lastest changes on Staker News such as the adition of different topics or a higher and different post cost average, it has somehow pushed down the quality of publications. I mean, my learning curve before was so exponential for me, but now it's just like a straight line. I rarely bookmark anything now to read later, and this is meant to be a constructive criticism only, to contribute positively.
It's only my opinion and impression, but let's let stakers speak. In adition, I just want to add these words of Napoleon Bonaparte:
"Sometimes one must step back two paces to move forward one."
Stay humble and stack sats.

If you're wading through recent, I agree that the quality isn't great.
@benthecarman recommended we create a "cowboys only" mode so you only see stuff from cowboys.
A variation I like on this: an economic threshold, eg "only show me posts that have at least 100 sats invested in them, either by post costs, zapping, or otherwise."

good idea, i wonder if there’s a neat way to combine this with wild west mode.
the initial purpose was to limit explicitly bad/completely unproven content, but there could be another tier for hiding slightly subpar/mediocre content too.

On nostr or specifically amethyst there's your following feed, and then there's global which is full of utter drivel, porn, racism and other unpleasant stuff.
So not 100% sure on SN but @Natalia was saying that you can subscribe to a stacker, maybe you can sub to your favourite stackers and create a personalised feed

Subscribing and muting is the way!
And your zaps ( local trust ) slightly affect what you see too, you can see the different content ranks once you log out.

Interesting question! It made me realise that I am never really too concerned about the quality of posts. I think the strength of SN lies in everyone chipping in their two sats’ worth, thus adding layers of insight to the OP. I like how I always get diverse perspectives here.
Regarding your situation, could it also be that you are getting used to the kinds of posts here and hence, it’s difficult for a new post to evoke that Woah! feeling in you?

I hear you man. Fair criticism, and great quote, very relevant. It's still early for territories. Owners clearly farming for engagement to recoup the 100k fee is clearly weighing down posts (I'm just as guilty). Let's see how this plays out.

I'm wondering how this is going to play out moving forward. I assume 100k per month will need to be lowered if price 10x.
Additionally, it looks like SN takes 50% cut? Those 2 variables: 100K / 50% cut may not prove to be workable long-term....one or both may need to change.

Part of the trouble is that the incentive to try to make money influences the kinds of content people will post. This isn't always a good thing, since when people have to write things without the idea of whether or not other people will like it well enough to give them money, they sometimes produce novel content that is quite good.

Damn it @DarthCoin knew something. I hate that guy.

I didn't visit for a few months but over the past couple days have been enjoying the increased diversity of topics and staying power of the platform. Most annoying to me are links to videos with no context. The front page is decent and recent has been worthwhile with the early zap economics. Long live SN!

In general, I also think the quality is decreasing. But could it be because there are now posts about more subjects? It seems normal to me that this would happen. Growing pains? I've already checked that we can mute territories and subscribe to stackers, or we can simply see the top posts.
reply
I think it's impossible to scale without a loss of quality, and I don't necessarily see it as a problem for SN (unlike Facebook, or twitter etc), because we have technical and social solutions to mitigate this situation, for example, zapping for high quality posts, or the ideas suggested here: #394300
