They had a real psychological edge in the first half, but they didn't maintain it. I'm now resigned to the Chiefs threepeating next year. Hopefully, something this offseason with change my outlook.
I don't think so. Half of Chiefs D are FAs. They can't keep that squad together and they don't even get close to the superbowl let alone win it without their D. Their one benefit is that no one is probably going to challenge them for the division so they will likely have a top 3 playoff spot again.
The AFC North is going to wild next year with Burrow coming back. All 4 teams are playoff caliber. Also, the Bills don't lose to the Chiefs this year if not for half their starting D being out. I think the Chiefs will probably be the fourth or fifth best team in AFC going into next year.

How dare you?
reply
I am sorry man. I hope the Raiders have a big year.
reply
No one has beaten the Chiefs since the Raiders did. I actually do think we'll be able to challenge them next year, but our team is young and probably won't go far in the playoffs.
reply
Hope so. Chiefs definitely turned it on in the playoffs but all three of Bills, Ravens and 49ers could have beat them if not for self inflicted wounds. You can't beat the Chiefs and yourself.
reply
You can't beat the Chiefs and yourself.
and, most of the time, the refs
reply
Refs were pretty good last night. Chiefs OLine were holding on every play as usual but I knew they weren't going to call any of that. Bosa got tackled by the RG on a play on the Chiefs last drive of regulation, that one was really egregious no call but other than that I didn't see much beyond the standard Chiefs holding.
reply
That was my impression as well. There were a bunch of plays where I noticed uncalled holds, but I don't recall any particularly bad calls.
Chris Jones
reply
Chris Jones is a free agent
reply
Sneed too.
reply
Sure, but the defending champs will be able to attract talent to make up for it somewhat.
reply
Three in a row is almost impossible. Better teams have failed to win 3 in a row. Unless these chiefs are the best. They beat buffalo by 3, ravens by 7 and 49ers in overtime. Close games they could have lost
reply
Professional sports teams to win 3 years straight since 1975
reply
Yes all close games. Ravens fumbled the ball at the goaline otherwise that game was tied and Allen and Diggs got crossed up on what should have a TD that would have won that game. 49ers made a number of errors too. Just goes to show that you have to play at the top of your game to beat the champs but by the same token you need the ball to bounce your way to stay champs too.
reply
The ball did not bounce the 49er way on the muffed punt.
Chiefs had to convert 4th and 1 in OT. That down made me nervous and I'm not a Chiefs fan!
Every Chiefs fan was nervous on that down.
reply
As someone who hates the Chiefs, I had a sense of near certainty that they would convert.
reply
Yeah I figured they would convert that as well. It was inches and the D was worn down by then. Maybe you have shot to stop that in the 3rd Q, not the 5th of such a high intensity game.
Unless these chiefs are the best.
Mahomes, Kelce, and Reid are the best, as much as I hate to admit it.
reply
3 hall of famers to be sure but even the best tandems don't win every year.
reply
Kickers determine legacies. Ask buffalo. Ask Adam Venitieri
reply
Better than Brady, Gronk and Belichick?
reply
By the numbers, yes.
By my eye test, also yes.
reply
Recency bias. People were saying the same thing in 2019 about a different trio. The patriots went to 8 straight conference finals. Chiefs have gone to 6 straight so far
In 2018 patriots won in Kansas City because of defense. The Chiefs defense gave up too many yards and points under bob Sutton
They lost in 2018, 2020, 2021 seasons. They maybe the best but best doesn’t mean invincible.
Yesterday the biggest play was special teams: muffed punt by 49ers.
reply
Don't doubt it but probably not all pro level like these guys. Not a lot of those caliber guys available and probably don't fit into their cap space. I think they do some restructuring and keep one but not both. I really want the 49ers to focus on OLine in draft and FA. They can add another edge rusher at the deadline like they did getting Chase Young. I hope they don't spend all their salary space on an Edge. Probably need some more S and CB depth but they are good for starters. Maybe need a 3rd LB if Burks leaves and another TE if Woerner leaves but OLine is the biggest weakness on the team. Need to draft to replace Trent anyways but in FA go for the top guy available that isn't a LT
reply
probably not all pro level like these guys
Probably not, but that assumes both are gone. I think Mahomes' weapons will be better next year and he's still getting better.
reply
They could have injuries to key players. Opponents adjust or improve.
reply
Of course. I think they're reasonable favorites, but I'd take the field vs the Chiefs, so it's not like I think they're inevitable.
