today i launched the ~charts territory.
it’s a place for anyone to post interesting charts and data visualizations they find.
there are no topic constraints, so don’t feel the need to keep it bitcoin-focused.
since this is a new territory, i figured it was worth experimenting with a new strategy for getting traction and incentivizing others to participate.
so, from now on i’m going to pay all of the sats i stack on SN back to the top posters and commenters on the ~charts territory every day.
perhaps if this is a successful experiment there is a way to productize the incentive system for other territory owners to reward a portion of their revenue to top contributors on their territory.
but since this is just an experiment, i’ll be doing this manually for now. i’ll decide what my favorite posts and comments are and how to distribute the sats, but every day i will be emptying my wallet (minus a bare minimum balance so i can continue posting each day).
🤠
Good luck with this! It's an interesting experiment. I try to zap my contributors generously and also incentivize quality content with zapping. I look forward to seeing how it goes, and contributing when I can.

I like the idea of data visualizations. Price charts not so much. Maybe it would have been better to name the territory something more generic like datavisualization perhaps? There is a risk that people would just use it for price charts technical analysis which in my opinion it gives people a false idea that one can forecast price and become a trader by just looking some charts.

yeah good point.
i like the simplicity of the term “charts”, but if it starts to get over-run with price predictions i’ll change it.
i figured charts was a broad enough term to encompass most types of data visualizations. are there any other data visualization styles you like that fall outside the scope of charts?

Charts is great, simple and good, but many people here would associate it first with a price chart. But that's only my guess. Let's see how it goes. Visual data, or data visualization may be easier to understand. Maybe infographics too. Or data graphs. I don't know. Just keep charts :)

very interesting and relevant also since I have seen many people open threads related to data and graphics in other territories, so I think the territory will be a success

If only you could give SN an API callback URL, to configure this yourself. Sovereign. Less centralized. Hmmm...where have I heard that before(?)

Did someone write about that and I missed it?

Yah, I brought it up a couple times in the past -- but seems impossible for you to keep tabs on all ideas.
See the section called "Waaaay more control over zaps flow" in #412066.
The tl;dr of what I've written in the past is - a territory owner, should be able to standup an endpoint, that they give that to SN in config. Then, for every zap, the endpoint gets as much context for the zap as possible, and the endpoint determines the weights and destination for the zap.

@k00b, I screwed up the link. I meant here:

I've bookmarked them. I remember your post about ~econ but missed the other one (or it was just so long ago).
I love the underlying why for the idea. I agree there's something there. I'll let it brew for a bit.

I think this is a testament to how Stackers write long form posts automatically that a territory has to be specifically set up to encourage us to post bite-sized information pieces haha

Kinda like r/DataIsBeautiful ?

yup, that’s the idea but ugly things are ok too

i’m also running another experiment with this territory.
discussion posts are the only possible post type.
you can still add links into the description of a post, but hopefully this encourages people to share charts natively on SN (along with their opinions and ideas) rather than link-dumping to charts on some other site and never returning.
