It's been about a month since I joined in on the 100 pushups a day until Bitcoin hits $100,000 USD trend. (I'm clarifying the currency for our international participants.)
For a little background, I was in a pretty epic bike crash a few years ago that really messed up my shoulder. Ever since, I've taken it pretty easy when exercising that shoulder, because it would get sore pretty easily. However, I've always loved random physical challenges, so I definitely wanted to give this a shot.
Out of caution, I decided to start out with 10 sets of 10 pushups, just to make sure my shoulder was up to the challenge. It was sore after the first day, but after a couple more days it felt a lot better, so I increased to 5 sets of 20 and then 4 sets of 25.
That's when I saw that people were adding other exercises into the mix. The squats made me surprisingly sore, so I went back to 5 x 20 for a few days. After about a week, I added calf-raises and went back to 4 x 25 (it was hard for me to keep track of 5 sets throughout the day and remember to do them all).
The big change came courtesy of @Nuttall, who was using a pyramid structure to get to 100: 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1. He rightly thought it was very cool that that series sums to 100. Now, I am definitely not capable of banging out that whole pyramid in one go. However, as a math nerd, I know that you can subdivide a triangle into four identical triangles. So, my modified pyramids were 1-2-3-4-5-4-3-2-1 (which adds up to 25) and I did four per day until that became easy for me.
Going forward, I'm returning to the big pyramid, but I'll be breaking it up throughout the day. Yesterday, I split it into 1-2-3-4-5-6-7 (which is 28), 8-9-10 (which is 27), 9-8-7 (which is 24), and finally 6-5-4-3-2-1 (which is 21). I'm doing this because it will let me naturally climb the pyramid further as I get stronger and reduce the number of sessions I need to split it into.
After one month, my shoulder feels better than it had, my hip flexibility is improved, and I'm demonstrably getting stronger. I look forward to whatever is going to come of the next however-long-it-takes to get to $100k.
