Is 69 the Best Mental Model for Getting the Most Out of Stacker News?

@ek encouraged me to make a special post to commemorate my 6969th post on Stacker News. I'm a family man, so I surely have no idea why that number would have any significance. I believe he was sad to discover that he just missed out on his own 6969.

Anyway, as many are reflecting on their lessons learned from MSM, to me it only reinforced what Stacker News is all about: mutual satisfaction.

If you're only earning sats and not zapping others, not only are you letting them down, you're letting yourself down. @k00b has designed a feedback system that rewards giving as well as receiving.

Likewise, if you're just zapping away, but not commenting or posting, you're not just foregoing potential zaps and rewards, you're denying others the opportunity to show their appreciation by reciprocating.

I used to think 69 was a thinly veiled reference to a sexual act, but when I asked about its significance on r/cc, I learnt that 69 referred to Bitcoin’s ATH in late 2022. Perhaps we ought to have a new mental model now that Bitcoin has surpassed past that.

Well if my experience on r/cc is anything to go by, it’s a good idea to capitalise on anything 69 related because that would attract a lot of attention (and correspondingly, upvotes/zaps) from other users. Yes, Sensei can be savvy at playing this shitposting game hahaha

I would add here that some stackers mentioned that they do notice and remember if they don't get zapped back. It's like some form of unwritten rule around here: if you get zapped in a thread with someone, you zap back; at least as a "I have read your reply"-zap. Amount is negotiable.

filtering on posts should probably change the count from ‘6969 items’ to ‘69 posts’.
It’s a little confusing currently how many posts/comments people have.
can see why, given the amount of flexible filtering options there.
filters could probably also only show if stacker has any of them

Well, the title made me think about some written version of 69.

Then I went searching for the importance of this number and look what I found out.
