I just read this article. The timing is interesting:
The government of El Salvador has announced a new program offering free passports and full citizenship to 5,000 highly skilled individuals from around the world. The announcement comes just months after El Salvador introduced its “Freedom Passport” program, which allows foreigners to secure residency and citizenship with a $1 million investment.
From The Freedom Passport web site:
As the trailblazer in adopting Bitcoin as legal tender, El Salvador offers unparalleled advantages for enthusiasts of the cryptocurrency and forward-thinking entrepreneurs. Enjoy the freedom of using Bitcoin effortlessly, complemented by tax laws that support your ventures.
Perhaps there are entrepreneurs and developers currently set up in a large, powerful country to the north who would consider relocating.
El Salvador is not perfect, but no place is. I sometimes visit a website called The Nomad Capitalist. Their slogan is "GO WHERE YOU’RE TREATED BEST".
I occasionally watch his videos, he's okay-- just talks a lot.

Their passport isnt even that good....

Thanks for sharing siggy, at least they do something to contribute to Bitcoin, I'm not particularly excited that governments are the ones that have to promote bitcoin, but I see everything that helps the ecosystem as a good thing.

Passports are shitcoins. Are a license to travel, nothing else.
If you as a free man have the right to travel, why do you need a license ? These "free passports" only want ONE THING: your consent to be their shitizens, aka their slave, you are literally giving your consent to obey them by accepting that passport.

Unfortunately the border guards have more firepower than me so this right of mine is usually violated.

Darth, people need passports. They arent bad to have. Sometimes they stop you when you want to travel without a license. And the problem is not worth it...so the solution is to get a passport. :)

Not really. Foreign passports allow you to use fiat off ramps, as increasing number of fiat to bitcoin services refuse to deal with American citizens due to American enforcement regime. Their KYC these days is to mainly make sure that you're not an American citizen. Realistically, you have to use fiat still

So you understand nothing from what I just said, right.

You don't stop being American by becoming Salvadorean.
How does it work in Salvador though? Can I go to a bank there, cash out BTC to peso and wire it back to my country, no questions asked? It seems fishy

You are not part of any country, you are a human being and you are not under the command of anybody. Borders are only in your mind, because you are in your own mind-jail. If you obey their rules and their borders is because you want or you have been brainwashed to believe in their existence.
reply
Well I don't think I have been brainwashed into nukes, tanks, and other very very large weaponry existing. Since I don't have those resources and I don't want to be deleted from Earth I am gonna have to disagree here. Not really vibing with the dying thing at the moment or thinking that I somehow wouldn't end up like Swiss cheese just talking past every border crossing there is.
It's a minor detail but ya know it kinda carries much more weight than not.

Salvador's national currency is USD, not peso btw. You can for example easily open a bank account in Spain with a Salvadorean passport and wire money there. You can probably also use an ATM card from a Salvadorean bank worldwide.
