I don't want to be a downer (man), but in a month or so we're all going to be in unchartered territory. The rewards will change and small zaps will likely vanish. It will be like venturing out of the solar system.
I tested using Alby linked with Blink on desktop, it actually works quite nice.

Good. Do you need to create an account with Blink?
reply
yes needed, so to get its API.

Thanks for testing! How did you connect Alby to SN?
reply
no, I just connected Alby with Blink API to test how it feels if I send or receive with Alby while the backend is blink, and it turned out quite smooth - I assumed it would be the same if SN could connect with Blink's API?

Ahh, makes sense. Will fix Alby support today.

Yes!

or Blink?
then I'm not so worrying! and @siggy47 can be relax about the unchartered territory! 🤓

But the concerns about small zaps due to network fees are valid. But on the other hand, lightning was meant to support micropayments.
I personally have a private channel with SN but not sure how many will open one. The good thing is that you can use this private channel also for other things.

What do you mean by 'unchartered territory'?
reply
With the wallet changes our stacking habits will need to change. We all have enjoyed the ease of the SN custodial wallet. By "unchartered territory" I meant the added fees, complexity, and inconvenience of a non custodial zapping system. There will be a learning curve and it will probably require a change in zapping habits. In the long run, we'll be better off, but it might be a rocky road.

I see. I haven't read up on when the wallet changes will take effect, but I'm guessing it'll be more than a month. I hope it works out with Alby!
reply
Things are fluid right now will all custodial wallets. By the time the changes occur Alby might be shut down in the US, IMO.

The point you raise about Alby is valid and could indeed happen. I'm in Europe, do you think it could affect operations here?

I think it's reasonable to assume that Europe will follow at some point
reply
I don't think so, but I don't know whether it would affect its interaction with SN. One thing we have going for us is this site has a lot of really smart people who can come up with solutions/workarounds as issues come up.
reply
Yep, been thinking the same
