Going back to traditions
Thinking of buying a sewing machine to play around a bit ( anyone got good recommendations? ) - I have been making clothes with tailors for more than one year now, and it feels like limiting my creativity if I keep needing someone in between to make things happen...
I assumed this is partly affected by seeing so many masters making beautiful things with their own bare hands, like what can I make on my own? 🤯 and it's just different feelings making physical things.
Well, I don't have any sewing machine recommendations, but I'm pretty sure making our own clothes is a clear sign of sovereignty nonetheless. ;)

happy to document my journey - I already did the work on finding beautiful hand-woven fabric ( yes, they still exist! ) and learned the basics of natural dyes ( all you need is a kitchen, some roots, and the patience to test ).
so logically, getting a sewing machine is like the next step to explore 👀 and I hand sewed a underwear just to see how much I'm really into doing it, and wow really fun! 😂😂😂

I've a an old hand run sewing machine of my mom. My mom still use it sometimes and I very much feel that the previous generations were more sovereign than ours.

agree, much skilled and willing to do the work!

I learnt to use a heavy duty one when I was ‘unexpectedly detained’ ...
Lightweight Singer machine; range of stitch options and variable speed via foot pedal is all you need. Hand cranks are fine but are an extra hassle and you may struggle with tensioning stitches. Check out thrift and charity shops if you do want an old school one though.

I'm thinking to get the traditional, it seems not too heavy and has the basics I need.
and wow @carlosfandango many talents 👀

yes I found a lot of repair shops here, not too worrying.
I really admire how some Turkish ladies can make so many things, from cooking, cleaning, knitting to sewing, but it is NEVER too late to learn! especially if I would be someone's mum one day, better to pick up these skills slowly I think. 🤔
