Maybe I should ask this as a post, but has anyone read Codebreakers by Richard Kahn? I guess it's an old cryptography classic?
I read it, but it's been actual decades, so not sure I can remember much other than "I liked it."

That's my standard book review for books I've read more than 6 months ago. I'm reading "The Genesis Book" and it's mentioned in there. I am really overwhelmed at how well written and entertaining Van Wirdum's book is.

I'm reading it now. I didn't know what to expect, but I am really enjoying it. I think you might too, particularly the history of FOSS, hacker culture, and cryptography. On the other hand, you might know all that stuff already.
