That still brings tears to my eyes. I visited Lake Placid last summer. Store fronts along the main shopping street have the last 5 minutes of the game playing on a loop. Ken Morrow was really charmed. He won an olympic gold medal, then went to the Islanders and won the Stanley Cup.

Tape delay on the east coast too. I believe the game was played in the afternoon, then televised during prime time.

I think you’re right. 5 pm EST was the actual game. 8 pm EST was on television

That's wild. The game was over and everyone was partying in Lake Placid while the rest of the country watched the game.

I lived with a bunch of friends at the time. We all stayed away from tv and radios that day. Then one of our idiot buddies came running in when the puck dropped on the tape delay and spilled the beans.

This was quite common in USA. NBA finals were famous for being tape delayed.
We see it with the Olympics. Or will see it in prime time later this month in Paris
But most people will know the results because they can stream it live

That's pretty incredible that Lake Placid is still benefiting from the Miracle on Ice. I am sure the movie helped too.

Truthfully, Lake Placid doesn't have a lot going for it anyway. I think they still hold college hockey tournaments at the rink, and there is skiing at Whiteface, but the economy is really in the tank. There has been lots of poverty up there for years.

That's too bad. When I look at pictures of Lake Placid it reminds me of where I live. Resort style town near the water also close to skiing. Would have thought it would be more popular amongst NYers but probably a lot more competing towns in NY state, whereas here in Ontario there is a lot of competing towns when it comes to cottaging, lakeside vacationing, but not a lot of competition for the ski crowd. At least not nearby.
