Inspired from @BitcoinAbhi there was comment regard police patrolling during covid. @memeverse
Because I live unincorporated territory, things are very different here apparently. Their handled differently. I didn't realized. During the lock down, people here self contained themselves. There were no police running around patrolling here, nor going door to door. They just recommended to stay indoors. But everyday, me and my friend would go to beach during covid like normal everyday activities. (Just us, mostly) People here actually drove fast(above speed limit) to get home. There were no police enforcement really.

for people that came on plane requirement

They did force quarantine (voluntary/nonvoluntary) but..still quarantine. The only differences is if you voluntary you get a 5* hotel room and if you were non voluntary they put you in jail. The minimum for each sentence was a week minimum-you could stay for two weeks optionally. The military basically became hotel staff if that makes sense??? Delivery food, water, newspaper to the guest.
So I want to ask the community through a poll.
Police patrolled my neighborhood 0.0%
Minimum police enforcement100.0%
18 votes \ poll ended

I think you'll find that no police was necessary throughout most of the world.
People are sufficiently terrorised into compliance.

The only run in I had was with campus police at the local college where I usually train for soccer. It was literally just me and my friend, no one else, training at the campus field and they told us to bug off because we were being 'irresponsible and inconsiderate', 'engaging in illegal activity and putting other's health at risk'.
Other than that, police enforcement was pretty minimal. It was great because everyone just voluntarily stayed home in fear or compliance so my gf and I just ventured out more since there was less traffic and places we love going like the beach became our own private beach essentially.
I do remember early on though, I went to a bank ATM and I rarely if ever wore a mask around since I just never felt the need to, and walked toward the ATM where there was a father and young daughter in front of me with masks on, and they turned around seeing me without a mask and both of them just gave me this death stare and quickly scurried along. Good times!

That's what I'm saying! I liked it when it was private, n no mask. But no one gave death stares, here. More like concern?

I am in the outskirts of Phoenix and I didn't see any police patrolling. Although, I remember they said they would issue tickets if they saw you out past 8 PM.

California governor closed all beaches for a few months starting March 16, 2020

No one came after him? Even if they close the beach, people can walk in, no? At least that how it is here.

California is a massive state. I live in a pretty rural county and I can assure you the governor's arm was not as long as they would have you believe.
This is my understanding. Governors in the US basically have two law enforcement tools. State police and the National Guard. There are no where near enough of either to control the population. Control is mostly psychological. It requires the population to self police, which plenty did.
In many(not all) rural parts of the state country Sheriffs refused to enforce Newsom's orders. Many do not understand the multiple layers of government and how they interact.
If you live in a city, you have three, maybe four governments you are dealing with.
  • City
  • County
  • State
  • Federal
If you live in an unincorporated area (which can be a town) there is no city government. You basically have eliminated one layer. During Covid many of the most egregious actions were from the city levels.
Cities have many things going for them but one negative tradeoff is that most police departments answer to the mayor and not the people. In most of the US, maybe all of it sheriffs are elected by popular vote and are usually from the area they police. Over the years I've had more negative encounters with state and city police. The sheriffs generally have better relationships with the local community. Don't get me wrong, there are issues but compared to police departments I believe they are better.
This showed itself during Covid. Gatherings were "not allowed" state wide. Our sheriff held a press conference state they would not be using their limited resources to enforce this but instead using their time to stop actual crime. That isn't a quote but it was pretty close to what they said.
If you do not live in a place you need to be very careful about how you process the news about an area. The media lies and most of the time is just lazy. They often give a false impression of what is happening on the ground. When it comes to news about California it is often assumed that what goes on in the greater Los Angeles area is state wide. This is nonsense. Same goes for the US. Its a big country and there is a lot of diversity within it. Its not nearly as uniform as they would have you believe.

How are sheriff limited in funding? I reckon they get plenty, and if they aren't, they probably are now. Also, you have to keep in mind, Guam-unincorporated is 30miles, so there isn't really much to run to. It's very interesting, makes me want to elect them sheriff. I'm not sure if Guam is large enough.
Even when they said "no gathering,” people still did, if not more because the isolation got to be too much, and they wanted to keep enforcing it, so people met up more. They later changed it to "no more than 4." And well you can pretty much figure out what happened after.

Sheriffs work for the county

Good point and I should have been more clear about beaches in Los Angeles were closed.
Truth is the mayor, stupid Eric Garcetti, who is gay but won’t come out of the closet like a spineless fag , and the city council and the county board of supervisors loved being dictator. No evictions for 3 years. No rent increases for 3 years.

Many thanks for including me in your post. It was very interesting @BitcoinAbhi's poll, it made me think back to that ugly chapter in our lives. To your survey I replied with the conviction of a minimum police enforcement.
It's true that we Italians are often undisciplined and don't like to respect the rules they impose on us. But going so far as to have to show a piece of paper with the reason for my departure at a police checkpoint was just too much.
We needed less police and more government marketing to make people aware of necessary precautions such as wearing a mask, hand hygiene and social distance, to defeat covid by everyone doing their part.
But with fear an entire population is held in check..

Fear is their only power - but only if you let them have it.
