In case you haven’t heard, SN is going noncustodial. So unless you want Cowboy Credits, you better get your noncustodial setup, well, set up!
I’ve got my Alby Hub configured with a Cashu backend and added a couple of @sn connections (one for sending and one for receiving).
Green light means go so LFG! Let’s see if it works. 😎

Seems to work well.

Cashu backend sounds wild.
No channel management? Can run albyhub on laptop, without a need for it to be on 24/7 to send and receive?
Or no.

Wild good or bad? 😎

I’m pretty sure it still has to be on 24/7. But yeah, no channel management (none at all actually). Also has some quirks that I might go over in a post at some time.

Ha! Wild is always good, of course.
Heard Darth talk about some of the privacy benefits, but was mainly looking at easy solutions for my wife.
reply
Yup, it’s definitely easy.

Channel management is the thing I dislike most about the lightning network. This is a good start!

In my opinion Albyhub fixed this.
You can open 2 channels super quick from trusted and recommended sources through simple UI, and call it a day, you'll pretty much never need to rebalance or set fees (depending on what your using your node for). Its pretty simple quick and easy while being a solid sovereign option. I'd give it a look if I were you, times are changing.

My take? The best approach long term is to get a full node. Commercial off-the-shelf. MyNode, Start9, Umbrel, etc buy one of those and run a full Bitcoin Node and Lightning Node yourself. Once you do you never go back. That way it's on 24/7 and functions like a miniature home server - all your Bitcoin and lightning apps in one place.

I’m still on the fence about getting one. I may pull the trigger sometime
reply
Honestly 100% worth it imo. Once you get a node you never go back. Using lightning from your own node that is up 24/7 alone makes it worth it imo
reply
That's only if you're using Alby Hub on the cloud, though, is that correct?
reply
A good start indeed since you don’t need to pay a large amount of sats (depending on the channel size).

Zapped this post 50 sat. After fees you should have got 35.

Thanks! 15 sat fee seems like a lot. Is that on my side or yours?

30% sybil fee is taken on zaps

Previously, we took 10% of zaps for ranking sybil resistance. This is insufficient for real sybil resistance. People still sybil zap their own subpar content at 10% so we've increased this to 30%. 10% isn't a whole lot for the outbound route for p2p zaps either.
As always, that sybil fee that's left over from the territory founders revenue goes to rewards.

Thanks! Just found that post and this great breakdown by @ek
Example Breakdown of Zaps
100 sat zaps before: 90 sats to receiver (10% sybil fee) + 5 sats (50% territory revenue) + 5 sats (50% rewards)
100 sat zaps now: 70 sats to receiver (30% sybil fee) + 21 sats (70% territory revenue) + 9 sats (30% rewards)
