reply
Very true. I've observed people mellow out a bit after being here for a bit, though.
I think there's a tendency to come in hot, because that's the norm elsewhere. Over time, the incentives of Stacker News shift behavior towards being more civilized.
You're right, though, that many people will never want to give up the ability to just spew cheap-talk into the void.
reply
Could it be that you have to put your money where your mouth is? I have noticed, in the past, that when people have to pay for things, they are willing to do something different. An example would be returning shopping carts at Aldi’s because you have to pay a quarter to use it and you get your quarter back upon return. It might also tend to cool some of the heat in posters and commenters.

Information is not knowledge. The only source of knowledge is experience. You need experience to gain wisdom.
Albert Einstein
reply
Whoa, quoting Einstein like this could possibly be a mistake. He was a patent holder of several patents in different areas that he “got” while he was a patent clerk working in the patent office. Yes, good experience, indeed. This is proof that patenting something may be a way to loose your IP.
reply
The most important aspect is the quote....not who say it, no ?
as there is no way to know exactly who says, does or whatever
reply
Yeah, but you have to consider the source of any quote. Would you be satisfied with a quote on jurisprudence and election ballot counting from Stalin?
reply
You think Staline would have say it ?
Quote for the past is nearly impossible to know who is the author....

Yes, Stalin had something to say about both areas.

reply
Whaaaat?!?!?!?! YOU are a cat’s owner. I’m shocked, simply shocked. I thought my cats were my owners!!! They take the choice spots to sit and sleep, I have to feed them when they rouse themselves to action, I have to get rid of their half-eaten dead offerings and last but not least, sift out the kitty litter every day! It seems the master-slave relationship is firmly enforced all the time by their plaintive cries for whatever they want.

I really do not like the term "global reserve currency" referred to Bitcoin.
  1. If is a reserve, it means is not used. So what we will use if not sats?
  2. Currency? What is the term "currency" ? Bitcoin is NOT a currency created by a gov or central bank.
This meme is really misleading. Is totally wrong.
reply
“Global reserve currency” also implies a bankster’s tool. A tool to screw every other living, breathing, full-blooded human being on this planet. I might be inclined to call that a touch repulsive.

LOL these days I did a lot of downzaps like never before... I usually do not use downzap feature but lately there's so much noise around that is annoying. I wonder how much they can handle these assmilkers, spammers and idiots with posting garbage and throwing around valuable sats....
reply
We should have a sheriff's badge icon for the top downzapper.
reply
I haven't found any? Just some people trying to promote stupid wallets and their projects and few Ai generated content.
And mind telling me what does downzap does to a post or comment?
reply
begging sats is also a bad behavior... remember?
reply
Hehe, You should provide the full context, people were donating sats to a teacher for student. I thought it's a good opportunity as I'm too a student and trying to grow like others.
You said 'throwing valuable sats' but downzap posts and wate your sats instead of helping others or donating to rewards? What a loser you are.
reply
If you really want some sats you must provide some value. I do not see any value in all your SN posts/comments that worth a single sat.
reply
stackers have outlawed this. turn on wild west mode in your /settings to see outlawed content.
have you been downzapping content you don't like or bad content (wrong, misleading information, etc.)? If memory serves, I've only used it once or twice. I prefer to spend those sats on good content, if you don't have a good trust rank downzapping has almost no effect!
reply
how are people downzapping? i dont see it anywhere
reply
reply
thanks, never knew it was a thing. so we pay a zap to basically downvote a post, is that how it works. a paid downvote basically
reply
the sats go to the daily rewards and if the post/comment gets downzapped enough it's outlawed.
i like this one! Ahahah
reply
yeah but you can't see how many sats were used for the downzap
reply
This was something we needed to fix. Honestly, who cares how many sats there are? It would be cooler to see how much the downvotes weigh (trust rank) against the upvotes on every post and comment. cc\ @ek @k00b
ohh that's what it's used for then. I had seen that option but didn't understand what it was for. Thanks for the information.
reply
reply
I also think that the information on downzappings should be improved. Notifications for those who have been downzapped and information visible to everyone about downzapped posts and comments. Why are upzaps visible and downzaps not?
reply
Agreed. It should be separated, as p2p zaps and CC zaps.
reply
I like the idea. @k00b, please keep this in mind. What do you think?

Step Five

Where this altercation ultimately ends up depends on too many variables at this point to give a definitive series of steps, however doing the following would be extremely advantageous to you.

Get the Constable on Your Side

A police presence may have been in effect at the very beginning of this remedy set up, or they may have been called in after the initial contact with the person making the fraudulent claim.
You may be talking to the police directly, or they may be there as an impartial observer, although if they are still identifying as a “police officer”, they are NOT impartial.
Before entering into any remedy set up, you will already know the difference between a police officer and a constable of the law.
Whenever a police officer is present, you must get his identity and get him on his oath right from the beginning.
Once the police officer has been put on his oath, he is no longer a police officer, but a constable who has sworn an oath to uphold the law and protect your rights.
Now you can use them to protect you against any third party making fraudulent claims against you; if they fail in their duty, they are no longer a constable and are now open to a counterclaim from you, for a criminal act made against you, either directly or indirectly through negligence of duty.
reply
  1. the powers and responsibilities of constables seem to vary greatly from state to state. Is that why you use the generic "get him on his oath"? Does constable here mean something close to "one in law enforcement with the oath below."
  2. The daily points are great but are there any books you recommend going deeper?
“I, _______________________, do solemnly swear (or affirm), that I will faithfully execute the duties of the office of ___________________ of the State of _____, and will to the best of my ability preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States and of this State, so help me God.”

are there any books you recommend going deeper?
All these pills are based in Great Britain " I do solemnly and sincerely declare and affirm that I will well and truly serve the Queen in the office of constable, with fairness, integrity, diligence and impartiality, upholding fundamental human rights and according equal respect to all people; and that I will, to the best of my power, cause the peace to be kept and preserved and prevent all offences against people and property; and that while I continue to hold the said office I will, to the best of my skill and knowledge, discharge all the duties thereof faithfully according to law."
One thing is similar everywhere: If you are responsable (able to respond), the officers (should) protect you. if you are not responsable, they protect others from you.
