I have been doing junk removal as a side hustle on and off for the last few years with a cage trailer.
Idea today
Good junk
We do the same service removing peoples things they don’t want we save anything that’s still good and give and deliver these for free to those in need. The premium fee for the removal covers delivery to those that need the stuff
Real junk gets dumped like normal the “good junk” gets a new life with someone that needs it
I noticed while doing junk removal people throw away so much stuff that’s still good
So could be a win win less in land fill more for those in need like people starting again after disasters or people escaping domestic violence and rebuilding lives
Thoughts?
I like the idea but part of revenue from junk removal comes from selling scrap parts, metal etc so would you be able to compete on price when your competitors have an additional revenue stream? You might if you put yourself on a bitcoin standard or do most of the work yourself.
I love these kinds of businesses though. I wanted to buy a territory for a brand that franchised junk removal, house cleaning and 1 day painting businesses. I wanted all three brands though and they only wanted to sell one at a time.

This only works when there is quality stuff being removed. The junky crap is just dumpster bait. Lately, manufacturers are not going for high quality goods, but goods that have planned obsolescence constructed into them.
reply
Yeah so the junk will be disposed of but the stuff that’s alright we will link up with someone that needs it for free

I have been there and done that at one time in my life. See the reply below.

Yes true they are high demand services for sure !

I love this idea. I am a huge fan of finding uses for things that others want to discard.
reply
Yes for sure a way to make money and do something good

reply
I could with my idea accept payment in bitcoin and maybe offer a discount if payment is made in bitcoin .

Ob yeah! Great idea! I've seen many junk dealers become millionaires in India.

We have something local doing the same sort of thing, but specializing in furniture. They take it to their warehouse and advertise in the community to anyone that wants to come and take some away. A lot of people just starting out get good furniture that way. Recycling good stuff is a good business model, especially when you are taking it away for a fee, from people that do not want it.

I have seen people throw away so much stuff that’s still has more life to it and it’s a shame if there are people going without when others are dumping stuff

When I was new to Japan and flat broke, I needed some things I could not afford. They had a special day for getting rid of unwanted large items. People were throwing away good stuff. I got a refrigerator, small boom box, futons and a bicycle in one trip. I moved them into my apartment right away and was pretty much set. I afterward went out a couple more times and completely furnished my apartment with what I found, for free. Yes, people do throw away good stuff, usually because they are updating something.
reply
Exactly right ! Definitely come in handy for you!

It made a huge difference in the quality of my life. Without it, I would have been living in a bare apartment, without even a refrigerator for what little food I had. I was very thankful that people were discarding good stuff!

  • how many cage trailers do u want to have in this salvation operation?
  • where will u store this good-junk?
  • how is this going to be different from good will stores?
  • how will people find you? - will u advertise in the half-way homes and shelters?
  • will u have a volunteer army? what incentives will u provide to the volunteers; maybe a selection of good-junk?
with the dehabitation agenda raging on, with hurricanes and fires and all, as well as rising divorce rates, violence, etc., this cud be a great idea! making sure the new home is not going to be wasted on a victim wud be my biggest concern - i wud hate for my work to go to waste, so my selection criteria wud be relatively strict at first.

I would plan to grow out one trailer at a time and as it’s a paid service I would have paid staff ( me) then others as it grew. I would need to solve the storage side . A storage unit maybe to keep the good stuff while we find a new home for it.
Difference to good will stores here anyway they take donations then sell them and use the money to help people I believe. So I’ll be hopefully giving mine direct to the families.
I guess if I got to much I could feed some of the quality stuff to good will as well
